Speaker 1:

Welcome to today's episode about embracing your role. On today's episode we are diving into the complexity of our modern family dynamics and personal growth. I'm your host, Lauren Denny, and on today's episode of Denny Talks, I'm talking about being a mom a bonus mom and navigating the juggling acts of life and motherhood and business ownership and working outside of the home, inside of the home all of the things. So hopefully today you'll be able to see yourself in some sort of avenue and we can find a common ground that encourages us all to better ourselves so that we can turn around and better the people around us.

Speaker 2:

Speaker 1:

Maybe you feel this way. Maybe you're a mom balancing the responsibilities of family life while harboring the dreams and aspirations of your own. But maybe somewhere along the way you've convinced yourself that pursuing those dreams might be selfish, that you should wait until the kids are a little bit older or less chaotic. What if I told you that maybe reframing that thinking could not only benefit you but also serve as a really powerful example for your family? It's going to be all about recognizing that your family is learning from how you choose to show up for yourself. Are you prioritizing your health? Are you pursuing activities that bring you joy? Are you constantly stressed out and overwhelmed? Well, I totally get it. I've been there. It's really easy to be able to put somebody else's needs much further ahead of yours, before your own. But here's the thing when we prioritize ourself, we set a really powerful example for our loved ones. So whether it's hitting the gym, a passion project or just simply taking time for your self-care, it really speaks volumes. You turn around and are a better person. You're more relaxed, more energetic, for those around you as well. So take it for my own journey, for example. Like I started going to the gym and my kids loved going to the gym daycare because they got to see somebody that they liked at the gym. Or maybe when they got a little bit older, they were joining me for the workout when they were embarking when I was embarking on my side hustle, my creativity might've rubbed off on my family and it sparked new projects and bonding experiences. Like our son would come in to our wood workshop and he would start like creating swords out of like leftover wood scraps from our signs. Or we would make new signs for our house. That was really special because they got to paint the signs. And instead of feeling like you have to separate yourself in order to be able to put an emphasis on yourself, try looking at it more as if, like, you're actually bringing your family in closer. You never know really how that can change the trajectory of your family by setting an example for just showing up for yourself. So instead of feeling guilty for taking time for yourself, consider the ripple effect that it can have on your family. By showing up for yourself, you're not only setting a really positive example, but you're also fostering a stronger, more connected family dynamic.

Speaker 1:

So now I know what you're thinking, but I'm in a season of life where I just don't have the time. And trust me when I say I hear you, but we all have different demands on our time. I acknowledge that there are definitely seasons of life where someone with babies and toddlers have schedules that look so much different than those that might have more self-sufficient kiddos. So I do give yourself some grace. Don't let that be. But don't let that be the reason that you are stop pursuing your goals or that you shouldn't carve out time and moments just for yourself. So you are going to really need to get scrappy, be creative, find pockets of time in the midst of all that chaos. I know it's going to be really difficult, but you've got to show up for yourself. Like this is my me urging you on to that and you're trying to be your cheerleader on this one. So I know that it's really difficult choice that you have to make on the daily. For me, I'm I'm really glad that I did stick with my own commitments, because I do truly feel that it has has had that ripple effect and trickled out into my own family Outside of my own choices.

Speaker 1:

From the very beginning, I had to really be honest with myself. Like how much time was I spending scrolling on social media? Was I pressing snooze a little bit longer than I needed to? I don't really know what your reasons are. I want you to hear me when I say that I am understanding, and please do give yourself grace, because everybody's life is busy. But I know that if you choose to carve time out for yourself, it's going to transform the way that you show up for your family. The confidence that you start to have within yourself is going to allow you to feel like a more of yourself. So when my kids were really young, they would either go to the gym with me or my husband would, and my husband would stay home with them while I went to the gym for like an hour, and then we would switch. And that's something that we would do when our kids were really young. And then, when my kids were at karate or soccer practice, I would use that time to answer some emails or create a digital product while I was in the waiting room. But the decision has to be made in order to decide to make these choices and these changes in your life.

Speaker 1:

So make the decision to hustle. Maybe it means choosing to stay up one hour later than usual because you are editing photos from a photo shoot. Or you're getting up an hour earlier before everybody else does because you need to take products of a new item that you're going to launch. Or while you're watching tv, you're editing reels and writing captions. Um, come on, I know you're a multitasker, so you've got this one. You are super human. Remember that there are seasons of hustle. There are moments where we need to push ourselves a little bit harder in order to reach our goals, but you're totally capable of it. You are capable more than you realize. So, to all the bonus moms out there and to all of the biological moms out there, I want you to know that you are enough.

Speaker 1:

Today's episode was not meant to be casting judgment on anybody's time or how they choose to show up, but it was more of just trying to lend encouraging word that you are worthy of pursuing your own goals while still being an incredible parent, and that you're not alone in this.
