My guest today is Bonaventure Dossou, who is originally from Benin but now currently based in Germany. In this episode, we learn that Bonaventure actually wanted to become a doctor however he is now in IT. He attributes his interests in science to his father who is a mathematician and architect. Bonaventure says that he loves IT because of the ability that allows him to combine his love for mathematics and gave him the liberty to be innovative. For undergrad, he went to study in Russia to attain his BSc in Mathematics. We discuss about his experience there as an international student and one of the two African students in his entire class. Further,  upon completion of this BSc degree, Bonaventure moved to Germany where he recently started his MSc doing data engineering Jacobs University, Bremen. Apart from his masters research, Bonaventure is working on an independent project called the FFR: Fon-French Neural Machine Project, which aims to create a robust machine translation system for the Fon language, his native language from Benin. We learn more about this work and its importance.
