Speaker 1:

It's a phrase from popular movies. It's also a question that comes up in our daily life. The question is is that even legal? We talk about the things that drive you crazy, the things you won't believe and the things you need to know and understand. I'm attorney Bob Sewell and this is the podcast. Is That Even Legal? Let's get started.

Speaker 2:

Bob, we just did an AI episode with my buddy, mike Carey. What scares you the most about robots?

Speaker 1:

Oh, I kid you not, There is. I have a little bit of fear. This is not a joke. What blows my mind is how the interaction with the AI is so intuitive. It's to the point that it's like, on this newer stuff that's coming out, that it's not like you're talking to some sort of natural language search, It's like you're talking to a person. It's really amazing. What really scared the crap out of me when we were messing around with it was when I said tell me everything you know about Bob Sewell, just to see what it could do. It stopped and said no, I don't do that. And it made me realize oh crap, the only thing that's keeping this AI from scavenging the internet and telling you.

Speaker 1:

Spilling all the beans about it, spilling all the beans and is just programming and maybe access to the right prompts. So that's some scary crap. It could really. What's Bob Sewell's deepest, darkest secret? I mean it could find that out. I mean it's Google, my digital trail is out there.

Speaker 2:

So scary, yeah. Okay, so Bob is one of the most humble guys I know and the podcast is for you, the listener, not about Bob, but Bob recently got a promotion. He's ahead of litigation at his law firm And with that new role, there's some interesting topics on your mind, like antitrust and Yeah, yeah, i'm always interested in antitrust.

Speaker 1:

I find it absolutely fascinating. I find it fascinating that we in America we talk about how we love competition And we know that you know mega-corps are bad for competition, but we back down to mega-corps all the time and we let them have monopolies. And then we all know it's a monopoly and we all know we're getting screwed and we all know innovation is dying. And when we say I can't do anything about it except we can And we know It's a fascinating subject. The other thing that's interesting is we got one coming up about mental health.

Speaker 1:

So it's a crisis in the law. And it's such a crisis in the law because if you think about, you know, a profession that is combative, right, this lawyering, if you think about an intellectually challenging lawyering, is challenging and everyone you're meeting is in crisis. It's such a problem that lawyers lead the way on substance abuse. They're self-medicating all the time And it starts, frankly, it starts in law school. They start to teach you that in law school, about you know, the lawyers go out and they drink. That's what we do And, buddy, we've got to change us.

Speaker 2:

Right, right, because 20 years later it's a big problem. We got a bunch of alcoholics, yeah, okay, got one more for you. Story Okay. This woman was telling me the roots of her divorce. It starts on her honeymoon. She's on a beach, they're in the water. They almost get hurt by a surfer. She goes after the surfer yelling at him. He's thinking the surfer has the right of way. You, as a Cali boy, have been fascinating with the laws of surf worldwide. Yes.

Speaker 1:

Are you doing an episode about this? I want to do an episode about you know surf law, because it really. You know, surfing is not a crime, but if you go to Cali, at certain times of the day, it is a crime. And you go to these other beach towns and they want to limit your access to the ocean, they want to limit the people there, and I suppose that's good, right, right, right. But you know how far can this go?

Speaker 2:

Right This is a call to all of our network 87 countries, 57,000 tribe members who look at our stuff every week. We need a real genius on surf law.

Speaker 1:

We do. We need someone who knows surf law And they got to come in on this podcast and spill the beans. help us fight the man. So surfing is not a crime, no more.

Speaker 2:

Ride the wave, get on the podcast.
