Lady Leadership - Careers and Business For Women

Why resilience is the skill we all need in our Careers

Samantha McIntyre Season 2 Episode 85

In today's episode of the Lady Leadership podcast I talk about resilience and why it is an important trait and an important skill. I share in this episode where I believe that I have had to dig deep in my life and career.

Resilience is the ability to bounce back from adversity and overcome challenges. It's an important trait that can help us navigate life's ups and downs, and ultimately lead to personal growth and success.

Why Resilience Matters

Life is full of challenges, setbacks, and failures. It's how we respond to these challenges that determines our success and happiness in life. Resilience is important because it helps us to:

  1. Overcome adversity: Resilience allows us to bounce back from setbacks and challenges, rather than getting stuck in negative thought patterns or behaviours.
  2. Build confidence: Overcoming challenges and setbacks can help build our confidence and self-esteem, making us more resilient in the face of future challenges.
  3. Develop problem-solving skills: Resilience requires us to think creatively and develop problem-solving skills, which can be valuable in all areas of life.
  4. Create more fulfilling relationships: Resilient people tend to have more fulfilling relationships because they are better able to handle conflict and setbacks.

How to Develop Resilience

  1. Practice self-care: Taking care of yourself is an important part of building resilience. This includes getting enough sleep, eating a healthy diet, and making time for exercise and relaxation.
  2. Build a support system: Having a strong support system can help us cope with challenges and setbacks. This can include friends, family, mentors, or a therapist.
  3. Practice gratitude: Gratitude can help shift our focus away from negative thoughts and emotions, and towards the positive aspects of our lives.
  4. Learn from failures: Rather than seeing failures as a negative, try to see them as opportunities for growth and learning.
  5. Focus on the present moment: Resilient people tend to focus on the present moment, rather than worrying about the future or dwelling on the past.
  6. Cultivate a growth mindset: A growth mindset means seeing challenges as opportunities for growth and learning, rather than as threats or obstacles.

Resilience is an important trait that can help us navigate life's challenges and setbacks. By practicing self-care, building a support system, practicing gratitude, learning from failures, focusing on the present moment, and cultivating a growth mindset, we can develop greater resilience and ultimately lead more fulfilling and successful lives.
