Speaker 1:This is kind of an interesting topic because you may or may not have heard of grounding. Some of you may have seen, you know people when they take their shoes off and they walk barefoot on grass and they're just like energetically aligning with the earth. Or maybe you've never even heard of grounding. You have no idea what I'm talking about. Let's talk about it and why it's so beneficial for you. So, first off, energetic grounding or spiritual grounding refers to whether we are centered in our physical body, like we're present in reality, and aligned with the earth. Are we present? Are we here in the now? So you know those mornings where everybody's awake but nothing goes as planned. The kids walk around the house and they're just zombies. They're not listening, or maybe they're super hyper. Everything their sibling says annoys them. They're constantly bickering about nothing. We try hugging them, we try getting them dressed, we try getting them ready, but it's pointless. Things constantly are just like dissolving into frustrated tears and ours as well. Well, they really sometimes have a hard time explaining why they're feeling this way, and we have a hard time explaining why we feel this way too. Sometimes you just wake up and you feel off Like you just nothing's going your way and it just ruins the whole day. So let's talk about what to do when you're in those situations. For me, a lot of times I feel anxious. I feel like someone's sitting on my chest or if, like my head is just all over the place. I can't really like think of what I need to do next. I feel very scatterbrained.
Speaker 1:So we are spirits embodying a physical body, right? So meaning that it's not just our physical body we have with us during our daily adventures, but we also have our spirit and or our energy. So what we were basically energetically grounded spirits and our energy bodies have to be aligned for our physical body to be present. So what we do, how we do that. There's a lot of different ways how we can kind of connect the two or ground and center ourselves. So how do you know when your energy is off and you just need to ground yourself?
Speaker 1:When we're not grounded to our physical body, we might walk down the street and miss a familiar turn, or we might become anxious about little things that normally would seem insignificant. The less grounded we are, the longer and more challenging it is for us to return our focus. Sometimes we're very sensitive and aware of our surroundings and so we get very overstimulated. It's very, very tough to be present when you're not grounded. Decision making is very difficult. You worry relentlessly about what's happened in the past and what might happen in the future. You find it really hard to be in the now and it's hard to enjoy things or have fun. Our patient levels are lower. Everything takes longer and just feels more challenging. And for children, when they're in this state, they feel very scattered, floaty. They constantly feel like maybe they're under attack, it's hard for them to keep up, maybe they're in this continuous state of like anxiety. And it's not because they don't try, it's just because they need to be grounded right. So let's talk about how you feel when you are grounded. It feels energetically, feels super good, like you feel very focused. When we're grounded, our thoughts are very clear, we know how we feel, decision-making is easy, we're present, we're able to experience what's going on around us. We can enjoy the moment without worrying about what's next, and this state allows us to manifest. Because we're present, we can come up with really brilliant ideas and, yeah, it just it feels amazing. So how do we do this?
Speaker 1:There are a few ways or a few techniques you can use for grounding. The first and easiest one is called naming. So this is kind of like a spiritual grounding technique that helps you to use your five senses. So basically, you're using your sense of smell, touch a sight and you're in like, for example, you'll be naming objects that you see around you. You'll be noticing the smells. You'll be seeing like, what does this feel? Like the fabric of your pants? You're just basically bringing yourself to awareness. So with kids, you can be like okay, tell me what's in the room, what does it smell like? Are you colder, are you hot? Is your shirt itchy or scratchy or is it soft and smooth? And you're just basically bringing their brain back to the present. It's very easy for children to kind of be flighty and like escape into like an imaginary world, and then it's hard to bring them back. So this is a great technique even for us. Like you can do it when you're doing the dishes and just focus on doing the dishes, not thinking about the emails you need to check or the kids you need to pick up. Like you just bring your mind, you focus on what you're doing in that moment.
Speaker 1:The second one is mindfulness. Mindfulness is another technique that is used for grounding and it's defined by again paying attention to the present moment, by focusing on specific actions. Like, if you are washing the dishes, you're focusing on the plate that you're washing. Right For me, I like to focus on my breathing. So I'll like go sit on the couch, just take a few deep breaths and I just sit there for like five minutes and just notice my breath. Is it shallow, is it deep, is it rushed? Do I need to take a few deep breaths? Does my chest feel heavy? Like I just sit for a minute and breathe, just close my eyes and I have nothing else to focus on, and sometimes with my kids, what could help too, is if you take your thumb and your middle finger and you place them together and you do one breath and one breath out and then you go to your thumb and your middle or your thumb and your ring finger In out and then you go to your thumb and your pinky finger In out and then you go to your thumb and your ring finger out and it just helps them to kind of focus on. I'll do that a few times with my kids and just call, especially if Jameson is like in his like spiral down, I'll say, hey, like this is not a time to discipline, let's just like help you calm down right now, and that's a technique that we like to use.
Speaker 1:The third one is earthing, and that's kind of what I talked about before, where you take your shoes off and you stand on the ground and let your body basically ground into Mother Earth and it's basically walking barefoot, you're lying on the ground, you're playing with earth, you're hugging trees, you're just kind of getting your inner rhythm to that of the earth. And I know it sounds kind of hippy but it's not. I promise you will feel incredible if you really take it seriously and you just go out and you just feel the sun on your face and you sit in the grass and our bodies are designed to be in the earth like that, and so it's very calming for us and it helps to kind of regulate the natural rhythm of your body. So if you're struggling throughout the day and you're just feeling very scattered, I want you to try either naming you're focusing on using your senses, you're focused on being mindful and being aware of your breath or your earthing. You're taking your shoes off, you're gonna walk in the grass for a little bit. I even have my kids do this, like if they have too much TV time and they get kind of anxious or whatever. I'm like okay, everybody outside, we're gonna take our shoes off, we're gonna go lay in the grass, we're just gonna talk, we're just gonna be still for like 10 minutes and watch how it shifts their mood and their mentality and you as well. Like we're not meant to sit inside all day and be on electronics, we're meant to be outside. So your body will feel peaceful when you do so. Hopefully this helps.
