(over comms and cutting out)
Wh goi wi gines? In!
MADDOX KANE
Captain Rex! You’re cutting out, I can’t hear you. I said there’s a power spike that we have to resolve. And, oh never mind.
TERRY MENDELSON
Forget it. How do we fix this? Should we shut the drives down?
MADDOX KANE
We can’t just shut them down. A sudden interruption in the fusion reactor would be catastrophic since we’re past light-speed. We have to dial back the reaction to an optimum level.
TERRY MENDELSON
How?
MADDOX KANE
The levels have to be manually adjusted inside the fusion core. Our controls out here are fried from the surge.
SOUND: FOOTSTEPS, OPENING COMPARTMENT, RADIATION SUIT BEING PUT ON
TERRY MENDELSON
What do you think you’re doing?
MADDOX KANE
Putting on the suit to go in there obviously.
TERRY MENDELSON
No you’re not. I’m taking the suit and you’re going to tell me what to do.
MADDOX KANE
Why would I do that?
TERRY MENDELSON
Because I’m expendable and you’re not. Maddox, you’re way smarter and more knowledgable than I am. We can’t risk you.
MADDOX KANE
I don’t need your permission Terry.
TERRY MENDELSON
The hell you don’t. I’m the Chief Engineer remember? Hand over the suit.
PAUSE A BEAT
SOUND: RADIATION SUIT BEING PASSED TO TERRY AND PUT ON
MADDOX KANE
I’m not happy about this.
TERRY MENDELSON
Me neither. Do you think I want to go in there?
SOUND: OCCASIONAL POWER SURGE, SUIT FINISHED, FOOTSTEPS

(wearing helmet) Ok, what now?
SOUND: FOOTSTEPS
MADDOX KANE
See that access panel? You need to slide it open and set it to override. There will be 3 levers you’ll need to adjust in succession after that.
TERRY MENDELSON
Gotcha. Here I go.
MADDOX KANE
And Terry, wait for my instruction.
TERRY MENDELSON
I’m not touching a damn thing until you tell me to. Heading into the decontamination chamber.
SOUND: FOOTSTEPS, DECONTAMINATION HATCH
MADDOX KANE
Hatch closing, fusion reactor hatch opening now.

Move over to the panel and gently slide it open.

Maddox, Captain Rex sent me to...what is Terry doing in the fusion chamber?!
MADDOX KANE
Dialing back the fusion reactor manually instead of remotely since the controls are down. Please don’t interrupt me any further.

Now, press the override buttons on the left.

Move each lever slowly one-at-a- time about a third of the way down.

They have it under control. Well, as much as you can have a fusion reactor under control.
REGINA REX
That’s the best we can hope for.
JONAS ALDRIDGE
I think you could go catch some personal time Captain. You’ve been up here 16 hours now.
REGINA REX
(sounding relieved and tired)
Yeah, that’s not a bad idea.
JONAS ALDRIDGE

She looks exhausted.
JONAS ALDRIDGE
She’s been up here way too long. Can’t say I blame her.
ANKO LUMEN

JONAS ALDRIDGE
Given what happened the last time they tried the warp drives.
ANKO LUMEN
That’s right. I never did get the full details on what happened there.
JONAS ALDRIDGE
She doesn’t talk about it much. From what she’s told me though the ship nearly flew apart. Almost killed everyone.
ANKO LUMEN
Lucky they made it out alive.
JONAS ALDRIDGE
One of them didn’t. Something about damage to the ship and a crew member getting pulled into space.
ANKO LUMEN
While running at light speed?
JONAS ALDRIDGE
Yeah.
ANKO LUMEN
I can’t begin to imagine what happened to that person on a molecular level.
JONAS ALDRIDGE
I think she’s traumatized by the experience and feels responsible.
ANKO LUMEN
The price we pay for taking risks and making history.
JONAS ALDRIDGE
Making history?
ANKO LUMEN
There’s only a handful of ships from the station who’ve attempted to make the jump to hyperspace. It would be a big deal back at the station under different circumstances.
JONAS ALDRIDGE
Maybe it will be a big deal again someday. It’s a big deal to me either way. Or it will be once we make it.

URSULA NASH
You know, I’ve been thinking there’s something else we need to talk about.
JONAS ALDRIDGE

URSULA NASH

URSULA NASH

Calm town big guy. I know you’ve had a lot on your mind. But since you don’t have a place to live and since I have a nice big place on the station. I thought maybe you could move in.
JONAS ALDRIDGE
You mean as long as the station hasn’t been blown up by rebels?
URSULA NASH
Yes, there’s that. We’ll have to see if I still have a place. Either way, do you want to shack up with me?
JONAS ALDRIDGE

(as she’s entering) How much time?
JONAS ALDRIDGE

(walking in with Regina)
Why didn’t we get a warning sooner?
REGINA REX
Unfortunately the mapping software for light-speed routes is limited.

If they’re so small, is that a threat?
REGINA REX
If we hit just one at this speed, yes, it could be a huge threat to the integrity of the hull.
JONAS ALDRIDGE
Can we just alter course?
REGINA REX
We can but moving this fast we can’t just slow down and turn so quickly. And without knowing what we’re turning into or towards we could end up pointed at a nearby planet.
Oh shit.
JONAS ALDRIDGE
REGINA REX
Yeah. We’re going to need to do some creative steering.

REGINA REX (CONT'D)
Maddox? Are you on comms?
PAUSE A MOMENT
MADDOX KANE
(over comms) Yes captain.
REGINA REX
We have to power the warp drives back and steer to avert an asteroid field at the same time.
MADDOX KANE
Ok. That’s not ideal.
REGINA REX
Not it isn’t.
MADDOX KANE
The steering will have to be subtle. Very subtle.
REGINA REX
I know. If we work together we can do this.
MADDOX KANE
I’m with you captain. Let us know when you’re ready.
REGINA REX
Soon, we don’t have much time.

Listen up. I need everyone to assume crash positions at your stations immediately. We’re going to be hitting some seriously intense gravitational force shortly.
