Jun 10, 2023
Gavin Watson / Rob Campbell

Rob joined the United States Army (USA) in 1987 and served for 27 years in the Infantry, as a Ranger and Paratrooper, reaching the rank of Colonel.

In this episode Rob talks about joining the U.S. Army as an officer, completing Ranger School, progressing through the ranks to become a Staff Officer and Company Commander in Hawaii.  Plus what it was like being an Aide-de-camp for a 3 star General, before attending Command & General Staff College (CGSC), and later being selected as a Major at the 82nd Airborne Division.

Rob also shares a deployment with the 82nd to Iraq as a Brigade Executive Officer, a move to Alaska as Battalion Command, and a deployment to Afghanistan.  He also discusses being stationed in Hohenfels in Germany, later being sent to the U.S. Army War College before being drafted to the 101st Airborne Division, where he was deployed once more to Afghanistan.  Rob has written 2 books; first book shares what he learnt from his time in service: It’s Personal, Not Personnel. The second book is about transitioning out of the military: At Ease..
