Speaker 1:

thanks for watching this episode of stories inside the man cave podcast, and this episode is brought to you by the fine americans at hard grove roofing hard grove roofing know who's on your roof stevie lee does it the best hands down.

Speaker 1:

He does it the best Hands down. And just like that, we just changed our shirts and we got Big Stevie fresh out of a trip, the dad of the year, the volleyball dad of the year from Houston, and he had a nap. He's ready to ride for this. We got a lot of opinions that I'm ready to hear from you, so to speak. Let's do it, man, I'm ready, let's go, so to speak. Let's do it, man, I'm ready. Let's go, man, let's ride. Man, we're moving fast, we've got to fast pace. Another beautiful Sunday night, the night of this recording. We try to get these out early, but, man, we've got to accommodate both of our schedules, since this is not our true profession, but we should one day, man. Maybe Stevie one day.

Speaker 2:

No, I think it's yours for sure, man, I'm just trying to catch up.

Speaker 1:

Well, Stevie Lee, you mentioned it, you mentioned it already, man, but our family Hard Grow Roofing man, we talk a lot, they're doing a lot. They're doing so many creative things with the business as far as promoting it, and really they are relating to Central Texas and everywhere you and I go, we talk about it all the time Because of these latest ads. They're very personable and they really promote a good product and it's easily said by you and I love it when you say it. I know I say it all the time about Hargrove Roofing.

Speaker 2:

Hargrove Roofing Know who's on your roof and you really will.

Speaker 1:

There's no doubt about it. Hey, be sure, before we move forward, I've got to tell everybody, please like our Facebook page. Youtube, tiktok, twitter, slash X, all of it, all of it. Instagram we're everywhere and you know you've got to do it because you get to see more of Stevie Lee's mug 100 times. I mean. It's 24-7. So it's on there forever and that's right.

Speaker 1:

Hargrove roofing you see a little bit about them. Um, where do we begin? Where do we begin? How about a little bit of this Texas Longhorn football? Spring football concluded recently, but now, because I think the deadline has passed, it is portal season, or it was portal season, and you mentioned it, stevie, that you thought Texas needs to work on the depth of the defensive line and they did add a couple of pieces from the University of Arizona. Did you have a chance to really weigh in on that and think about it? And it's funny that you said it from your reports, from going as a former Texas Longhorn football player, you get to go to the practices and you noticed that immediately you were a little bit concerned about the depth there in the interior defensive line and as soon as Stevie said it, steve Sarkeesian and staff released it Two additions to the defensive line.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, man, I'm not a coach, I just go out there and observe y'all. So that was my observation. I thought that we needed to do that. I didn't tell anybody, but you guys on this podcast, but I'm glad that they went out and added some pieces. And then, you know, when spring well, I'm sorry, when two-a-days come back around I'll see if those pieces will actually make an impact. But you know, coach, have done a really good job of hitting the portal, so I'm fully entrusted to what their choice was. During the portal, I think we lost one that we really wanted to OU actually, right, I was keeping in contact with that one. But you know, hitting that portal is really important nowadays in college football. I'm glad that we're figuring it out and not complaining like some of these other coaches and wanting to get out of the whole thing. It's just a new world order right now. I'm really happy that Steve and his staff are adjusting to this whole new world of NIL and portal or transfer portal stuff. So this actually is pretty exciting for me.

Speaker 1:

No, it is, it's fun and I think it adds another element to the fan interest, because the fans now are just as educated on the transfer portal and who's in it, because the information is easily accessible. I mean, you've got bill norton, arizona defensive lineman, coming to texas now, um, a pretty good size kid, um 66 285, and I probably going to butcher the name here, but I want to try it tiaoli savea uh from las vegas, by way. I believe from Arizona as well, they call him. Actually he's an offensive tackle Old lineman. I got ahead of myself because I was thinking, possibly that.

Speaker 2:

There were three defensive linemen.

Speaker 1:

But I still think there's still a chance that Sark and the staff they do add another defensive line by some form or fashion.

Speaker 2:

Is that one of those Samoan-like names?

Speaker 1:

I believe so. You know they said he has a mean streak. They all do.

Speaker 3:

We've had a couple on our roster already.

Speaker 1:

So, yeah.

Speaker 2:

So I like those guys, man. They are big, nasty and good footwork, good hands and just strong. They're strong man, good work ethic too. Absolutely Welcome to the University of Texas, kid.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, 100%. You know and we can't. I know it's NFL draft. The buildup for it is intense. A lot of good marketing. Nfl does a great job in all the great stories of these young men before and their families and you see how they react. But when you talk about it now, post-mortem, 11 Longhorns selected in the NFL draft.

Speaker 2:

It's time for the most in history, right.

Speaker 1:

Yeah Well, I most in history right.

Speaker 2:

Yeah Well, I think in 83, didn't they have 15 to 17? Well, I saw a post that the actual team put out that it was like tied for the most in history. Well it's unreal.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, it's development, it's good evaluation, and you don't always oh wow, did you push something? I did not. I don't know it must be your birthday or something.

Speaker 1:

Birthday's not for another month and a half. Well, one of those guys that was drafted, stevie Adonai Mitchell, transfer portal guy from the University of Alabama, great receiver I don't know if Texas plays in the CFP. I think he was a key part and this is not criticism of anybody on the team. They got him because they knew they needed another piece to compliment Xavier Worthy. I don't understand this. I get it.

Speaker 1:

When you meet your pre-draft meetings, your interviews, there's some weird questions asked. I know this because I followed it and I interviewed a lot of NFL scouts my time in Oklahoma and here in Texas. But this one I thought for sure Adonai Mitchell would be a first or second-round draft pick. He fell all the way to the 52nd overall draft selection and there was some negative criticism and one word just really eats at me and uncoachable and I really didn't understand that. But the Indianapolis Colts really founded off on that after he was selected and this is raw and I respect the hell out of this GM of the Indianapolis Colts and what he said about the negative reports on AD Mitchell.

Speaker 3:

I don't know. I mean I read some of the bullshit that was said on TV. I mean just the typical fucking excuse, my language, our typical league, unnamed sources, you know, bad interview. That's such bullshit. I mean it fucking is. It's bullshit Like put your name on it. I'm tired of we tear these young men down. These are 21, 22 young men and, if you can, if people out there can tell me they don't, they're perfect in their lives. It's crap. It's crap. This is a good kid and you know for for that, for those reports to come out. I said it last year it's bullshit.

Speaker 2:

Spot on. Yeah, hats off to this GM man for calling it out. He's absolutely correct. You know. If you're going to put someone's name out there and down them, you need to put your name on it, right? You need to do what the kids say is stand on business, right. You got to stand on what you say about someone and be ready to defend what you say about someone. You know. And hats off to Coach GM. And you know. All that's going to do is show Mitchell that there are people out there that got his back. You know. All that's going to do is show Mitchell that there are people out there that got his back. You know. And um and and make them work even harder to prove someone else wrong.

Speaker 1:

Right.

Speaker 2:

And sometimes you know, at that age, man, it feels like you know the world is against you. But for having someone in your locker room to say hey, someone in your locker room to say hey, don't worry about that, we didn't believe in all of that and all that stuff for one second. So you're our guy and so that'll make Adedai feel good, his teammates feel good and he can move forward and just become the best NFL football player, because he's done the college football player thing To now take that step to be the best NFL football player that he can be. It's really good to have somebody in your corner, in your back taking care of you.

Speaker 1:

His own teammates at Texas I remember it on Twitter immediately stood up for him. I'll be devil's advocate here, but it doesn't justify this at all whatsoever. I get it to an extent that these organizations are investing a lot of money into a human being. I get it, yeah, but where do you get uncoachable? I mean, that's a dagger. Yeah, that's a dagger.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

That's a dagger.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

And I can think of a lot of people who are uncoachable in life.

Speaker 2:

And as a football analyst on the other 31 teams out there, you got to know that's a lie. For someone to come into a university for only a year and have the impact that he had at the University of Texas, you have to be coachable. That's, that's the number one thing you have to do is be coachable. To be able to be coached, to be on the same page as yours that's hard and to be able to be coached on the playbook. At the University of Texas. He caught on to that playbook very easily and we know how much of an offensive mind Steve has right. To catch on to his playbook in a year and to have chemistry with your quarterback, that's nothing but coachable.

Speaker 1:

So the proof is really in the pudding. Yeah, I could list some other guys who I think may be uncoachable, but I'm not going to go to Twitter because I think Exactly, yeah, but if you, do do it.

Speaker 2:

If you ever was to do it, you would have your name on it.

Speaker 1:

Right.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, you would have your name on it. Right, you would have your name on it. That's what he's saying. If you're going to bad talk, these kids put your name on it 100%. Let us interview you on why you said that, justify it Justify it?

Speaker 1:

Absolutely Not. Sources say that's one of the biggest bullshit things I hated about. I love the media. I love telling human interest stories. I love relationships. I love telling great stories that were inspiring to others or maybe people didn't know. But when people start you, sources say I always hated that. And that sources say route started, in my opinion, when twitter started to take off in 2010, 2011. It became more frequent.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I hear what you're saying yeah, but it's just the way it is. Hey, I think we both can say we're ready. We're ready for the season, college football season. So I've got a couple of things for you, stevie, and for you watching at home. You know FCS schools that's lower division one. They know about playing FBS schools. They usually are scheduled for money games, but not always do the FBS schools win these games. They don't win them all. I've seen it. I've seen it happen. I've seen Stephen F Austin beat Louisiana Tech at the turn of the century. I've seen North Dakota State correct me if I'm wrong beat Kansas State, but for some reason they play good football in the Dakotas. Look at this North Dakota State and FCS Powers won a lot of national championships at Colorado First week of the season. You think that? And Deion's got something to prove. Does he have some players? Yes, but are they ready?

Speaker 1:

This right here a website that released this. These are two games. Would you put money on North Dakota state at Colorado, cause you know North Dakota state, they've got a program and their program guys and you know they want to win that those kids aren't playing it for the money Cause they're not seeing the money.

Speaker 2:

Right, no, that's actually real. That will be a good one. And depending on the line, the money line, who would put money on that man? Because North Dakota State this is all they're thinking about during the offseason, when they're doing their conditioning and their hand is on the line and their strength and conditioning coach say go as they go. They're going to say beat Colorado every single time, beat the Buffs, beat the Buffs. And that's every single day, every time they leave the line. That's what they're saying this summer, this offseason. So they're going to beat it into their head that they're going to go out there and beat the Buffs and Colorado. They can't overlook them. They cannot overlook them. Man, I remember Appalachian State before they became D1. Who did they beat? Was it Michigan that they beat?

Speaker 1:

Yeah, when they were FCS lower D1. But Appy State has been a relevant program for a while.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1:

But back then when they beat Fort it was almost unheard of. Yeah, that was a big one, that was a huge one man.

Speaker 1:

And then South Dakota State, which is another great FCS program at Oklahoma State. Now I have to preface this Listen, mike Gundy's been very consistent. Oklahoma State's been very consistent. No-transcript, seven to 10 years. First two or three games, they haven't been overwhelming, they've been underwhelming. I mean this one's going to be a tougher one for me to pick in an upset. And, by the way, the website who released this this is good homework by their part underdogdynastycom that's a great name, by the way. The Jackrabbits that's a great name, by the way. The Jack Rabbits I don't like them because they're called the Jacks as well, like my alma mater, but I don't know, man, this could be tough. It's going to be hotter than hell in Stillwater in August, but they've got Texas kids on that roster. I don't know what to pick. Mike Gundy slowed a roll August, yeah, but they've got Texas kids on that roster, yeah.

Speaker 2:

I don't know what to pick. I mean Mike Gundy, slow to roll in some of these first two or three games. Yeah, mike Gundy is one of those coaches that get his team ready throughout the year. They get better throughout the year, so that's the one that can sneak up on.

Speaker 1:

You're exactly right. So I saw a video of my favorite or hardest hit I've ever seen in college football and I want to show it to you. It's from, I believe, 1994. Texas A&M was damn good Defense. The wrecking crew still rolling. I think a lot of people know where I'm going with this who have watched old Southwest Conference football. I think a lot of people know where I'm going with this who have watched old Southwest Conference football. But this was Texas A&M against TCU. A linebacker who, I believe, ended up playing for the Indianapolis Colts.

Speaker 2:

To the left side straight, drop, throw the ball.

Speaker 4:

It is off the hands of the intended receiver that will be Kyle McPherson, who was there for a moment and now his lights are out he's on his back as he was hit by Quinton Corriott was it Corriott or Bates?

Speaker 2:

it was Corriott and boy did he unload on him. And that is the danger that you face when you come across the middle as a little wide receiver yes, and McPherson's jaw was broken oh, wow, so you know how Will and Nelson that wasn't targeting McPherson's jaw was broken.

Speaker 2:

Oh wow, so you know how Willie Nelson feels that it wasn't targeting. But I don't think that was even targeting if it was in today's game. Really I don't think so. I don't think so. He hit him in the face, didn't lower his head, he didn't hit him with the crown of his head. But you know, willie Nelson told us, told moms, don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys. We also need to tell moms not to let your babies grow up and run across the middle as receivers, as a little receiver.

Speaker 4:

Or any size receiver.

Speaker 1:

What's the hardest hit you've witnessed in college football? Ooh, which one stands out.

Speaker 2:

One of them stands out. We were playing Texas A&M and Phillip Geiger. He and I went to high school together and then we came to play at Texas together Right there was a tight end that came across the middle and caught the ball briefly and Phillip dislodged him from the ball Almost exactly play right there that we just saw. And then so Phillip, he didn't fall, just like that linebacker didn't, and so he gets up, he does this right here. So we just started calling him spirit fingers. But it was a pretty big hit, man, it was a pretty big hit. But you know, if I really think about it and go back, man, I know I got some big hits from DJ, because DJ would run downhill and just lay his body out, knock you out.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, knock you out. I remember Quentin Jammer coming up and knocking people out. I'm a little biased. I'm talking about all Texas defense guys. I remember GB Greg Brown coming up. He was a big, big safety, great safety, coming up and knocking people out. Oh, deedee, deedee Lewis. Another one. Oh man, deedee Lewis would scrape off the edge and hit somebody hard. You know, golly, I can go on and on man, but that one against Texas A&m kind of stands out to me.

Speaker 1:

Philip, those are some good moments. I, yeah, I still remember nathan vasher on the uh punt return. Texas tech faked it. It was at dkr and he downhill, he saw it and just blasted.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, carlos Francis, you remember also Kwon Cosby, crackback blocking on OU.

Speaker 1:

Lindy Holmes yeah, cue money. Yeah, man Kwon is my guy. Shout out to Kwon. Shout out to Kwon. Man Cave, vip alumni. There you go, he is.

Speaker 2:

Oh, my guy Shout out to Quan.

Speaker 1:

Shout out to Quan man Cave, vip alumni.

Speaker 2:

There you go.

Speaker 1:

He is. Oh my God, I love to get Vasher on. He was at Texas getting his.

Speaker 2:

Oh yeah, he lives here in Austin.

Speaker 1:

He's a fine American.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, man, let me work on that then.

Speaker 1:

And Vasher would be awesome. Hey, we've heard of Florida being a speed state. I think that's. Oh man, I think Atascosita High School can hold that title and this is why Atascosita Jelani Watkins at Caden Durham who's going to win?

Speaker 4:

Duncanville, here comes Jelani Watkins for a humble Atascosita, high stepping all the way to the finish line.

Speaker 1:

Pulling all the way through that's Watkins, the man of the hour here for Atascosita. High stepping all the way to the finish line. Pulling all the way through that's Watkins, the man of the hour here for Atascosita. And he goes unofficially. 39. Unbelievable Atascosita High School. That's the suburb of Houston.

Speaker 1:

This is unreal man In Humble 39-14 here in Austin at the UIL State Meet. But I want you to look at the left-hand picture. That's from another VIP alumni of Stories Inside the man Cave Ralph Thomas, great player from Lufkin, great head coach at Jack C Yates High School and Houston ISD, taz Casita look at that 39-14. That's great and all. But keep counting. One, two, three, four teams, high school track teams, boys sub-40, four by one.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, almost five, almost five. That's really close to sub-40. But man, that's moving. These kids are getting faster and faster. And if you look at it, man, those kids that were running, they're not small, no, big old boys, they weren't just small track guys. Those are like some football players out there running too. Man, these kids are getting faster and faster these days, man.

Speaker 1:

And I've got a little tie-in here. So Torrey Blaylock he's the son of Derrick Blaylock and I'll tell you who Derrick is in a short minute. Torrey was recruited by a lot of people as a running back for Atascosita. He committed going to OU. But look at this man. They won the state championship and I think it says right there first time in program history at Humble has won the UIL 6A Boys state championship. That's phenomenal because you're going up against teams talented like Duncanville. But Torrey's dad, derrick Blaylock if you're a Kansas City Chiefs fan, you know all too well who Derrick Blaylock is. He's a strength and conditioning coach on the side. Very fast Human being was a running back for Steven F Austin At the turn of the century. A great guy. We had a lot of speed back then. A lot of speed. Not that they don't now. But congrats to the Blaylocks, congrats to humble man. But Texas I I think is is just as fast as the state of Florida.

Speaker 1:

Yeah yeah, that's just putting that out there, man. That's uh, that is huge, huge, huge. Um, man, why don't we, why don't we bring it home, closer to home, to right?

Speaker 4:

with some carry. Get out of town Max Ballou.

Speaker 1:

Chicks dig the long ball, Stevie Lee.

Speaker 2:

Chicks dig the long ball it Lee. Chicks dig the long ball.

Speaker 1:

It's real Texas. Listen to this 99 home runs on the year.

Speaker 3:

Oh wow.

Speaker 2:

As a team, let's do it, man. Their bats got on fire here of late, man, so all I want to do is tell these kids to keep swinging, just keep swinging just keep swinging, swinging hard.

Speaker 1:

it's, it's, and, and also texas won. This is huge man, texas. The last two weeks, two or three weeks, they're coming together, they're gelling, yep, uh. David pierce a lot of criticism of him and he's a friend of the program here, like Matt Brown would say. A lot of criticism. But we had Tanner Witt, the pitcher dealing with the post, tommy John surgery from, I think, two years ago.

Speaker 1:

It's unfortunate, but there's been a lot of young pitchers forced into action early, which that was not part of the plan. Then you've had two transfer pitchers who have been injured. So a lot of young pitchers have had to increase their development. I'm not giving excuses, it's just a fact. It's really hard to develop a pitcher when you need that many to pitch significant innings, that many two-pitch significant innings. And all of a sudden, texas they're 30, I think 30-18. Right now they're in a tie for second in the Big 12. Three games behind Oklahoma, who they beat. So they're tied with West Virginia and Oklahoma State for second. Now, right now they obviously have the tiebreaker against Oklahoma State and they don't play West Virginia, but they're going to go to common opponents for the tiebreaker as of right now. I'm almost positive that they have the tiebreaker against West Virginia as well.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, yeah, no, the bats came alive and now pitching is starting to come along. Yeah, yeah, no, the bats came alive and now pitching is starting to come along. That's a testament to a coach getting these guys ready for the long haul, not just a snapshot in the beginning of the season, but keeping it going and getting ready for playoffs. So, or college world series, yeah, well, you're on point.

Speaker 1:

The ncaa regionals, um, yeah, so before this, before last weekend, I think, before last sunday, um, texas rpi, which is a huge component of receiving bids, they were in the 70s. There's only 64 teams that make it. Now they're up to 50. Okay, so they don't have any more midweek games. They are going to go to now Big 12, central Florida in Orlando. You sweep them, you're probably 41, 42. You take two or three, 45, 46. Then the series or regular season finale against Kansas. You take two or three, or sweep them, stevie, you're potentially up to the 38 to 42. And I'm going to go ahead and say it, since baseball is a perceived non-revenue sport. You get up in the 40s, 30s. Texas is in, yeah.

Speaker 1:

But, if they sweep Central Florida, sweep Kansas and get two or three, maybe four wins in the Big 12 tournament in Arlington? Maybe, yeah, maybe you're hosting, I hear you Maybe.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

But there's still that chance. They run the table here. They could catch up with Oklahoma. Oklahoma's got to lose three games.

Speaker 2:

From Sean's lips to God's ears.

Speaker 1:

Right, Anything's possible. What's the beauty of baseball man?

Speaker 2:

No question.

Speaker 1:

Anything can happen. I do have to show you this. Are you familiar with what a shift is on defense for baseball?

Speaker 2:

Absolutely.

Speaker 1:

I want to show you this and tell me what you see. No third baseman.

Speaker 2:

So he goes into right field every time, then right.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, you go to the left. That's Peyton Powell, from third to left field. They did this for OSU's Nolan Schubert, who's a power hitter, but he rarely hits ground balls and he pulls it to right field almost always.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, that's brilliant, that is brilliant. Brilliant that's brilliant, that is brilliant.

Speaker 1:

Brilliant. Yeah, it's not uncommon. It's not uncommon, but I have not seen this in a long time.

Speaker 2:

You know this is a great shot, but what I'm looking at back there is I need to go back to that Yeti dugout back there.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, you do.

Speaker 1:

There's a little bit of hydration going on.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, man, I need to be back there. That looks fun.

Speaker 1:

It's a lot of fun. I've only gone once. It's hotter than hell, but it's well worth it. I've got to show you this. This is the catcher for UT Rio Grande Valley who put it on Texas, but I don't think it would happen again. But this is a league is catcher and it it's against my alma mater, I have to give him props. How about that?

Speaker 2:

man.

Speaker 1:

That's athleticism, hey man.

Speaker 2:

I like that too, but didn't he get the tag on his leg when he was in the air?

Speaker 1:

If he did, it was by a thread.

Speaker 2:

I thought I saw a tag before he hit the ground. I thought I saw a tag let's the ground.

Speaker 1:

I thought I saw a tag let's go to Stevie Lee video review. Yeah, hey, shout out to Damian Rodriguez. Man, you got some air, you got the run and you beat Stephen F Austin in a WAC conference game. Good job, damian, shout out to him.

Speaker 2:

I'm sorry. I don't want to take anything away from him. Shout out to D-Rock. I kind of want to see it again. Can you run that back?

Speaker 1:

We can definitely do it, I'll even remove this, run it back. We got to see it. We're going to do it Run this thing back.

Speaker 2:

Let's go baby. Okay, maybe not, I don't know. I don't know. It's inconclusive evidence. Inconclusive evidence.

Speaker 1:

Hey, before we take a quick break, you're going to humor me at my expense. During my work week last week, I stopped by Mary's Cafe on Red river for a coffee. Okay, look at these fine americans, they're good people. Yeah, all right, so they make my coffee. Um, I go over and I thought what I thought was hand sanitizer. It's a bottle of simple, simple syrup, and I had a handful of simple syrup, very gritty, very sticky. It was a Mary's Cafe first.

Speaker 2:

That happened. You washed your hands with simple syrup. That's funny man.

Speaker 1:

What did they do? I told them they gave me the keys to the restroom immediately. Yeah, that's right there you go.

Speaker 2:

Well, I'm glad that you can laugh about it now, but I'd have roasted you right there and there.

Speaker 1:

I deserved it. I deserved it, no doubt about it. I definitely deserved it. Hey, from Simple Syrup to Hargrove roofing, acting man, that's what's coming up, and when we come back we've got some humor, NBA playoffs and Charles Barkley hating on another Texas town. It's all out of love. We'll see you another Saturday.

Speaker 4:

Here at Hargrove Roofing we try to think outside the box, to kind of get the creative juices flowing. So I brought in my friend Stevie Lee, former defensive tackle for the Texas Longhorns. He's going to help the team strategize, really motivate them. Light a fire.

Speaker 2:

This guy's going to block down. This guy's going to block down.

Speaker 4:

You put your butt into the guard, and that way my Mike linebacker gets free to do what. Not only are they going to learn a thing or two, but they're going to also leave with a great attitude and a bunch of smiles on their faces.

Speaker 1:

I'm sorry what does this have to do with?

Speaker 2:

roofing exactly.

Speaker 3:

Get out Right now.

Speaker 4:

I said get out For me. That's what it's all about.

Speaker 2:

It's just having fun making our employees have a great time. Hargrove Roofing. Know who's on your roof? Yeah, for sure, If I'm at my house I might be on my video game with the game above me. But yeah, I'll definitely be watching the game. Are you watching more fan?

Speaker 4:

More fan or more? Hey, we might play this team. How are you watching?

Speaker 1:

Both. So that was the Oklahoma City Thunder. Shout out to my former boss in Oklahoma City on the right asking that question, myron Patton. So Oklahoma City had swept their series in the first round against the New Orleans Patriots and Patriots, good Lord Pelicans, pelicans, pelicans, all right. So they had a lot of time off, which I don't know. You can lose your momentum, but good for the Thunder. But they were sitting at home watching the Mavericks and the Clippers series. Think about if the Clippers would have won. Dallas won the series against former Thunder players. My love Russell Westbrook, james Harden, all of them on the Clippers, imagine that. But we got the Mavs. Texas versus Oklahoma, texas versus Oklahoma.

Speaker 2:

And Kyrie Irving has been playing out of his mind lately, man. So I'm looking forward to seeing Kyrie see what he can do against Oklahoma City and Oklahoma is the number one seed right. They're number one in the East, right In the West.

Speaker 3:

I'm sorry in the West. Yes, I'm sorry in the West.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, so yeah, that's going to be fun to watch man Really fun. It's going to be fun to watch man Really fun.

Speaker 1:

It's going to be a lot of fun, so let's run through this real quick.

Speaker 2:

OKC Dallas. What do you think happens? Man, I got Dallas. I'm sorry I got Dallas. Okc is the number one seed, but they're still young, right. Yeah, they're very young and Luca has been there before and Kyrie has definitely been there before. So I think their maturity is going to take them over the top. Denver and Minnesota yeah, giannis has got to be healthy, but you know we'll see. But Denver won it last year heaviest ahead to wear the crown. So you got. If you're going to, you know, if you want to be the king, you got to beat the king, right. So I'm thinking Denver is going to come out on that one. When you look at the Eastern Conference with Boston and Cleveland, I'm pulling for Cleveland one, because they got two big men from Texas with Tristan Thompson and Jared Allen, right, and Jared Allen has been. He's really cool, really cool guy. I had a chance to meet him.

Speaker 1:

Great family, by the way. I'm sorry, great family, by the way, I'm sorry, great family, by the way.

Speaker 2:

Great family. I was just about to say I had the distinct opportunity and honor for them to be a client of mine. Oh, wow, wow. For Jared Allen to be a client of mine, yeah, so it was very fun to deal with his mom and his dad Beautiful and now I run into his dad over here at the golf course a lot. His dad plays a lot of golf, so I said it low.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I will, I will, yeah. So they're just good people and I really really enjoy spending time with them, showing them properties and going through the whole process and buying a house here in Austin.

Speaker 1:

That's really cool. Oh, and then New York.

Speaker 2:

Man, new York and Indiana. I like New York just because it's New York, madison Square Garden and the Boston Garden. I still call it the Boston Garden. It's not the. Tv territory, it's still the Boston Garden. And then New York's not the TV, it's still the Boston Garden, yeah, and then New York City is the Garden. That's just a story program that I just want to keep going deep in the playoffs, you know so.

Speaker 1:

It's been a long time since New York was good.

Speaker 2:

So I'm glad that they're back in the midst of things. You know, and they did it the hard way. They went out and got some guys and developed players. You know they didn't really go out there and get players already developed. They actually did it from the ground up is what I'm seeing in New York. So I'm looking forward to seeing them beat Indiana.

Speaker 1:

It's a new trend. Oklahoma City the same way.

Speaker 2:

I think Oklahoma City is just one year out though One more piece.

Speaker 1:

Of course, all the rumors saying KD is going to return. I would love to see that, but then again it might ruin the chemistry that they have. Yeah, so I'll take OKC to win this series in seven. But, lose in the Western Finals against Denver, I'll take OKC to win this series in seven, but lose in the Western Finals against Denver, I'll take. I'm going to take Cleveland in the upset. Take Cleveland and New York in the Eastern Finals.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, cleveland and New York, okay Okay, you know what we due for a lunch date, man? Yeah, new York, okay Okay. You know what we do for a lunch date, man? Yeah, we are Long overdue. Yeah, so I'd love to do a lunch. A lunch at our Dallas OKC game. Winner, loser pays, let's go.

Speaker 1:

I'll do lunch Lunch wager. I'll say OKC and seven, OKC and seven.

Speaker 2:

I got. I don't want to. Let's not put the number of games in there, Just say winner outright. Okay.

Speaker 1:

I'll tell you Okay, see, you got Dallas, I got Dallas, that's fair. That's fair. Lunch, to be determined after that series is over.

Speaker 2:

If you're going to make me pick the games, it's for me, honestly, it's Dallas in five. Me, honestly, it's um, it's dallas and five.

Speaker 1:

Oh wow you heard it here. I hope charles barkley's listening to that. Um, yeah, maybe you guys feel the same way, hey? So, speaking of okc and charles, there's a little bit of a comical history. So I want to say back in 06, when the hornets were 05, the hornets were splitting time between new orleans and okc because of hurricane katrina. Yeah, um chuck made the statement and when he was interviewing a chris paul cp3 that uh man, there are no black people in Oklahoma, and he laughed. So when the 2012 NBA finals or the Western finals occurred, that was a great. I remember it like it was. Yesterday, tnt came to Oklahoma City, did this feature right here and this kind of summed this up. And this is Charles, because in the next few minutes we're going to be talking a lot about Charles Barkley.

Speaker 2:

Charles, come on down here so I don't have to be the only black man in oklahoma hey, you're the only brother here from what I can see you, you wear cowboy

Speaker 1:

boots yeah, take them up let me tell y'all something.

Speaker 2:

I never said anything bad about Oklahoma City. You had a choice between living in San Antonio and living in Oklahoma City for one year, and you could not leave either city. Which would you choose?

Speaker 3:

OKC, okc.

Speaker 2:

I'm telling you OKC, okc, stop trying to put up with it.

Speaker 1:

I'm telling you so you know what he thinks about it. He gets all the San Antonio people riled up. Started it in 2012. He says, man, we're going down to the Riverwalk. They got some big old women down there in San Antonio.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, man, yeah, and I love San Antonio. I love man, yeah and I love San Antonio. I love going down there. The food is great. The Mexican food is awesome. I spent my last birthday in San Antonio with my in-laws, but he's not wrong. There's some big old women down there.

Speaker 1:

And he calls the San Antonio River a dirty creek. It's a dirty creek.

Speaker 2:

He said there were some big old women because of all them churros, big old women down there.

Speaker 1:

So when OKC swept through the Pelicans, he and Shaq were disappointed Like man. They didn't even fight and he said you know, on TNT, when a team gets eliminated, they say send them to the beach, go fishing. And they said, send them down there to Galveston, they don't deserve to go to a nice beach. Here we go.

Speaker 2:

That water's so dirty I'd rather go to San Antonio. So he's not wrong. And I'm going to tell you. I'm going to say something, man, hopefully it doesn't go viral.

Speaker 2:

But I took my family to Galveston one year and it was supposed to be like a five-day vacation, stayed in a very nice hotel overlooking the water yeah, and it was nice, it was fun. We ate at the Rainforest Cafe, just kind of this and things. We walked around the beach. We didn't go on the beach because of what Charles said. This was years ago but we ended up cutting the trip short and going to the Woodlands. We went to the resort over at the woodlands and the kids loved it, like, and we've gone back. So we thought we were going to spend some time in galveston and was like, nah, let's get out of here. We literally told the hotel that we need to cut our stay two days short and booked a room over at the Woodlands Resort and sat out by the pool and had a pool guy come out and serving me and my wife while the kids were playing in the water and all that stuff. So once again, chuck is not wrong.

Speaker 3:

Not wrong. It's got a lot of history.

Speaker 1:

At one point, if I remember right, it was the biggest city in texas a long time ago. Then 1900 happened with that devastating hurricane. But this past week he was asked hey, after uh, beyonce, who's from beyonce knows from houston her mother reached out and jokingly tweeted at charles, don't be talking about our Galveston that way. And he had an opportunity to make good of the situation. You know how that crew does it award winning. This is what he had to say.

Speaker 2:

I'm not going to Galveston. I mean I want to go to the beach down and sit in the river and walk around.

Speaker 3:

You know what, you know what sets him off.

Speaker 2:

Listen, hey, he's doubling down, man. You don't go against Beyonce here in uh, in Texas, man, but he's doubling down on it, dude it's. I'm going to say it once again he's not wrong, he's not wrong, he's not wrong man.

Speaker 1:

I'll tell you what's not wrong. What's about coming up is never wrong. Real quick, a quick ATX pro tip to suggest to all these fine Americans watching and listening.

Speaker 2:

Man, really the pro tip right now. So it's personal for me, because you know we're gearing up for summer, right yeah. So my pro tip for summer is you know the kids are winding down, this is the last month of school and just get ready to make plans. My pro tip for Austin areas is make plans. The kids are going to be home. Make some days that you want to go downtown Austin and hang out with the kids, because you know we live in a very nice, world-class city. Now Austin and you grew up here it wasn't as big as it was. It was always fun. It was always things to do.

Speaker 1:

Oh yeah.

Speaker 2:

But we now live in a world-class city. We have world-class sports that come here with F1, all kinds of concerts and artists that come through and perform. So, pro tip, make a plan for summer not just to leave Austin to do your summer vacations, but actually spending some time and money right here in the town that you live in. So Great idea.

Speaker 1:

TikTok in the man cave. We'll quickly show you too. You know, when the jumbotron comes on and you're with your significant other, you're usually going to get caught kissing Not this time.

Speaker 4:

In my bedroom we play games of love to avoid the depression. We've been here before.

Speaker 2:

Hey man, so I saw that. Saw that a while ago. Hey man, I saw that a while ago. I don't know People that are watching this podcast. I'm sure they are a part of male text groups. I'm sure you're a part of a few text chains. Exactly how many times have y'all talked about that clip? I'm sure you're a part of a few text chains. Exactly how many times have y'all talked about that clip in those text chains? Often, I can't say this because I'm married.

Speaker 1:

You never do, you never partake in those discussions.

Speaker 2:

I've never seen that clip before in my life, actually no. But I would like to say hats off to that woman. She's the GOAT, she's the.

Speaker 1:

G-O-A-T.

Speaker 2:

The greatest of all time.

Speaker 1:

Everyone loves a good hot wiener, especially a life-size phallic symbol. Wait, let me rephrase that A hot dog, hot dog, all right, but whoever created this and I don't know if it's just New York City or it's making its way around Come on, man who's afraid of little old me? You should be.

Speaker 2:

Hey, man, we might need to go to the next clip. Man, we might get canceled.

Speaker 1:

Every day at noon Until June 13th that happens.

Speaker 2:

At noon. You get sprayed on by a hot dog.

Speaker 1:

DNA overload.

Speaker 4:

Hey, ben, tell me something good.

Speaker 1:

Let's bring it home, stevie Lee.

Speaker 2:

I'm a cheat a little bit man. My second good is a little bit like um, my pro tip summer's coming up guys. Um, like I said, you know, planning these vacations, planning on what you're gonna do. I am so looking forward to this summer. After this summer, my oldest child is going into her senior year, so this might be one of the last summers that I have all my family at home and it's bittersweet. So me and my wife, we're really looking forward to this summer spending time with her, taking her to some colleges and trying to figure that out for her. Help her figure that out. Summer's around the corner, guys. Enjoy it. That's something good. Put your head down and finish Kids. Finish your work, finish your finals, finish everything, all your standardized testing right now. Good luck with all that, but finish hard and strong and go into the summer peaceful, knowing that you passed everything, knowing you passed all your classes, and have a really good time this summer. Summer's here, almost. I highly encourage that.

Speaker 1:

Family time. Yeah, that's good. It's something good. I'll tell you something good, despite some negativity. I'm trying not to make this political, because that's good. There's something good, I'll tell you something good, despite some negativity. I'm trying not to make this political, because that's not my goal. It's not my goal at all.

Speaker 1:

So we have the beautiful right here in the United States to voice our opinions, voice our thoughts for a positive movement through a protest. I think what we've seen here, throughout the country, is a lot of negative but a lot of good, and what I mean by that is we have really learned more about how to protest. But we've also learned what to avoid and through others, unfortunately and that is get to know your local laws, what's allowed, what's not, and this is I firmly believe that none of this was political, even though it appears to be that way. Yes, things across the country or internationally, across the globe, it's disgraceful. We're talking about Hamas, a terrorist organization. We should all be protesting against and realizing that there's things going on in the Middle East, in that region, with Israel, palestinians, everybody. We don't want anyone to lose their lives, period. But what we've learned is and I saw some beauty in this through our friends, brothers, brothers and sisters who are Jewish a lot of people having their back and being supportive, showing love okay but also learning what this is all about.

Speaker 1:

You know, there's a lot of things that so many people don't know about. Yes, we would love to clear up what's going on in palestine, but using violence against our brothers and sisters from you know, ties to israel, it's just, it's. It's disgusting. Disgusting, but what the beautiful thing is people realizing we live in a great country where we have freedom of speech, a country that's full of diversity from people all over the world. I think what we learned out of this that's good Is learning to love everybody more through and put down the hostility.

Speaker 2:

Absolutely Well put, Well said man.

Speaker 1:

It was hard for me to watch the last two or three weeks, as was for a lot of people and those criticizing those in leadership, such as Jay Harzo at UT. You put yourself in the chair, not you, steve. Put yourself in a position of leadership and you tell me how you would handle that. I guarantee most people criticizing individuals like that. You wouldn't know what to do. He did the right thing, and I know that that's an unpopular opinion, but there's more to the story.

Speaker 2:

Absolutely. I hear you, man, that's well said. Let's love more, let's love more baby Lead. Hear you, man?

Speaker 1:

No, that's well said, let's love more, Absolutely, let's love more baby.

Speaker 2:

Lead with love man.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, that's exactly Always, yep, let's figure things out and love more, and it's okay for you and I everyone to think differently than each other.

Speaker 2:

Absolutely.

Speaker 1:

But respect each other. That's all we could ever ask for. Yep, I just used my Mack Brown hands. There you go, hey, stevie Lee. Much love to you and your family. It was a great episode.

Speaker 1:

We always want to avoid politics at all costs. We're not trying to sway anyone any way. We just want more love and happiness. Let's extend our lives and love this life. Yep, yep, absolutely. For the great Stevie Lee and the Hargrove roofing family and for the OG man cave boys, that being big Mike, coach Mo and the hardball hards. What do we tell him? Stevie Lee, we out. You see the jumpy.

Speaker 3:

I'm fitted up in my car.

Speaker 2:

Get out. I said get out.
