Ever felt that the world's issues could be solved by simply looking up? Today, I share an enlightening conversation with a retired football coach who offers a powerful perspective — the need to lift our eyes from our screens and reconnect with the world around us. Discover how this simple habit can transform our communication and bring back genuine human connections that we often miss while being glued to our cell phones.

As Memorial Day weekend approaches, I take a heartfelt moment to honor the brave servicemen and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Their courage and dedication have gifted us the freedoms we cherish, and it's essential to reflect on that profound impact. Join me in this episode of "Coffee with Clench," where we blend a dose of gratitude with a significant reminder to appreciate the blessings we often overlook. Wishing you a safe and reflective Memorial Day weekend, filled with appreciation for the opportunities their sacrifices have afforded us.

Speaker 1:

Well, good morning. This is the first installment of a new series of podcasts under the Stories Inside the man Cave podcast umbrella. I felt the need that, like so many of us, we see the world around us and the negativity, but I feel like there are so many more great stories than negative ones and that we all need to be infused with more positivity on a daily basis, and that's why I periodically hopefully three times a week, we're going to do this Coffee with Clench, and I am Sean Clenchench, the host of stories inside the man cave podcast. I want to give a shout out to all of uh, my sponsors, our sponsors of the man cave stories inside the man cave podcast, that, being honest, plumbing and air same same great quality of service, new name and we're a handshake still mean something, of course, of course, shoal Creek, Saloon, hargrove Roofing and Jim Saxton State Farm Insurance Agency. Here's the coffee, get a sip. And for the next couple of minutes or so, or 90 seconds, I want to give you something to think about for the rest of your day, just the entire day. Just a little something, a little nugget. And I'm going to start out with remembering what's in front of you, what I mean by that.

Speaker 1:

There is an old friend of mine older and I'll use the term lightly because I'll be 51 this year retired coach, retired football coach. I get a chance to go walking with him, probably once a month. But he said you know what, sean? You know what would solve a lot of the world's issues, especially here in America? And I said what, coach? And he said if more people would view the world and what's front of them, in front of them, more often. And I thought to myself what does it mean? What does it mean? So he said if more people view the world in front of them, opposed to what's on the ground, because everybody sees what's on the ground more often than they do what's in front of them. And I said I still don't understand. He said this the cell phone more people, if you watch and pay attention, more people are walking like this, swiping. More people are engaged with what's on that phone and the view of their feet than what's ahead of them and seeing what's in front of them, waving to people, smiling. That's why we're so disconnected. And it just made so much sense when this friend of mine pointed it out to me. So I'm more conscious now, not that I have a problem when I'm walking and looking at my phone. Now, I am on my phone quite a bit, but this has allowed me, afforded me, the opportunity to really look within and think, wow, he's so right. Because that's part of our lack of communication skills today because we look at our phone and we're so easily influenced, we worry about that life, we worry about fear of missing out on that notification. So it's something to think about.

Speaker 1:

And because of what weekend? It is Memorial Day. Just think about it for a second, what it means. There is a difference and people honestly, honestly make the confusion.

Speaker 1:

Memorial Day is to honor our servicemen and women who lost their lives in duty serving our country, and I want to thank each of you, the families, friends, spouses who have lost a loved one while serving our country, and I really think that, if you really put in perspective what these men and women have done for us, let's bring back the pride of serving our country.

Speaker 1:

Let's bring back the pride of remembering those who served this great country, the United States of America, where I would venture to say the only place in the world where you can create the life that you want, any life, any dream you have and the reason we have that opportunity is because of service men and women who gave that ultimate sacrifice to give us the freedom and the fight for what it is to be an American, for what it is to be an American. Happy Memorial Day weekend to each of you and to all those families who no longer have that loved one. Much love to you and I really appreciate you watching this and I hope you have a great weekend and be safe on Monday. Cheers you.
