Gender, Gender Identity & Gender Dysphoria
David, a Consultant child psychologist, will help us understand what has led to over 5,000 children being referred to the NHS for “Gender Dysphoria” last year compared to 70 just 15 years ago. How do we help children, their parents/carers and church leaders?
Almost every secondary school child will know somebody as school who has questioned their gender, considering changing their gender or may have started the transition of ‘gender realignment.’ Even some of our primary school children will have experienced these changes. For centuries, children at various stages of their lives have experienced ‘wobbles’ that either dissipate themselves or are supported by parents, friends or teachers. Is gender dysphoria another ‘wobble’ or is it much more serious? What has led to thousands of children being referred to the NHS for gender dysphoria? What do biblical words such as ‘truth’, ‘love’, ‘acceptance’ & ‘identity’ mean within this context? David, a consultant child psychologist will be exploring these issues from the perspective of the Bible, clinical practice and parenting.
