Things to Keep in Mind When Transferring or Selling Property
Transferring or selling property to family members (or non-relatives), or making future plans to do so, particularly real estate but not necessarily limited to that, is generally a major part of estate planning. Generally speaking, the main goal in doing so for many people is to pass such property to desired beneficiaries in the most tax-efficient (cheapest) way possible. What's the best way to do so? Well, it depends on your unique situation and goals, and what's right for one person may not be the best option for someone else.
However, there are a few things that everyone should keep in mind when making plans to transfer or sell property as part of a larger estate planning process. In this brief episode, an excerpt from a virtual happy hour event in November, Attorney Chris Bradley and Long-Term Care Planner Tammy Zilske discuss what everyone should consider in general when transferring and selling properties.
