Julie South [00:00:05]:
You're listening to the Vetstaff podcast, the place where you, the veterinary professional, can go to get your head screwed on straight so you can get excited about going to work on Monday mornings and be the most fantabulous version of you you can be. I'm your show host, Julie south, and this is episode one seven six. You can find back copies of the Vetstaff podcast@vetsstaffpodcast.com. This is the second episode in a four part series helping you add a few drops of resilience into your resilience juice tank so it's there when you need it. If you sometimes feel like you lose your why, then I'm inviting you to join me on a challenge so that you can recalibrate and or discover your inner compass and give you the tools to start topping up your resilience juice tank. This is the second step to building your own unique tailored exclusively for you and motivating personal affirmation statement library different statements that you can pick up and put down for different situations that totally empower you so that when you start finding yourself on a downward spiral, you can go to your personal library and reach for whichever statement you need in that moment. Last week we looked at professional values. That was episode one seven five.
Julie South [00:01:50]:
We looked at professional values. This week we're looking at how to make an empowering mindset shift with a positive affirmation statement. The first step today is for you to choose to identify an area where you are feeling doubtful, stuck, perhaps disempowered, out of control, maybe regarding yourself or a current situation. Perhaps, for example, you shy away from taking risks. Perhaps you struggle with impostor syndrome, or you're starting to feel overwhelmed by circumstances. Choose one area that you would like a little bit of resilience. Julie in decide what specific shift in perspective, the inner self talk, the inner dialogue you would like to make and how that would feel energizing and courage building for you. For example, you might make a statement like, I boldly take on new challenges, or I know my south and my talents, or maybe I face this with calm capability.
Julie South [00:03:12]:
Think about how you want to be, what you want to feel right now. An empowering mindset shift. What would that look like for you? What would that sound like? How would that read? Then write your affirmation statement using empowering present tense phrasing, focused on that desired mindset, that way that you want to be. Keep it short. Keep it inspirational for you. Nobody else needs to know about this. This is personal for you. We're not talking either about something that's in the future.
Julie South [00:03:53]:
You are writing it down right here, right now, as if it is already happening and is so. So please, if you find yourself writing something like I will be, drop the will be, drop that verb in the future and make it I am so make it current then, like we did last week, write it down and put it somewhere visible. It's no good being a best kept secret in your bottom drawer or in a file, or buried at the bottom of your bag or your briefcase. Put it somewhere where you will see it on a mirror, perhaps on your desk or a wall, or your phone, somewhere that you will see it often each morning and then throughout the day when you need a confidence boost, read the statement aloud to yourself. Let those words sink in. Believe them. I know that it might be hard, especially if you feel like you're a bit out of control right now, that there's just too much work for you to do. You need to take it on board as if it is.
Julie South [00:05:13]:
I get that, I truly do. And please trust me, because this stuff works. I want you to imagine yourself already embodying this bold, resilient mindset. How would you feel? How would you think, how would you act and speak if this were your natural state? Take that on fully. Embody it fully. Breathe it in in every cell of your being, and use it often, even when you don't need to use it, still say it anyway, because what you're doing is just adding another drop into your resilience tank. Back when I was flatting, I learnt shorthand. Shorthand is a whole bunch of squiggles.
Julie South [00:06:07]:
It's like hieroglyphics. I used to write my affirmation statements in shorthand. None of my flatmates could read them, and they were posted all around the house. I had these affirmations in shorthand, posted everywhere to remind myself of how I wanted my life to be. Perhaps use your own kind of shorthand, symbols, whatever works for you. I hope you found this episode helpful as a way to keep or to get your head screwed on straight. Strengthen your resilience and get excited about going to work on Monday mornings again, please. If you like the Vetstaff podcast and find it helpful, can I ask that you help spread the word by telling three of your friends or colleagues about how it helps you get your head on screwed on straight and build your resilience just one drop at a time.
Julie South [00:07:07]:
And get excited about going to Monday to work on Monday mornings. Again, to thank you, tune back in next week because we're looking at how you can affirm helpful habits to become part of your everyday, resilient life. This is Julie south signing off and inviting you to go out there and be the most fantabulous, resilient version of you you can be.
