Jenny Watts

In this episode i discuss my experience of how not being able to accept disabled as my reality and what i had became for a whole decade, how that lead me to supressing and squishing my true self down to embarrassingly become a  robotting real housewife of nowhere land. I highlight survival mechanisms we can do such as the blocking of feelings and emotions and how that can impact your life and the lives of those around you. I discuss how and why the preconceived notion that being disabled is a bad thing in society can make you turn and fight against yourself and your disability instead of the broken systems in place out there.
We learned to hide and deny who and what we truly are, to squish ourselves silently into the shadows or outwardly behind a masquerade to make society and others feel comfortable in our presence, all just striving to be classed as this thing called normal. Many of us will be doing this right now to ourselves and not even realise, i had been doing it for a whole decade before i noticed. And let me tell you this whole hiding and denying way of living is a brutal thing to experience, to become aware of and to transition from... but my god is it overdue and needed !.
This episode was created to show and highlight the realities and the very real dangers of what hiding, denying and suppressing your true self and your disability or illness can cause. In this episode i help others notice hiding and denying behaviours within themselves and their journey and to help show ways in which to start to be proud, love, recognise and embrace who you truly are, disability or no disability.
