"An assumed constraint is a belief you have, based on past experience that limits your current and future experiences" Ken Blanchard
This is how elephants are kept in captivity, they're tied to a pole when they are young and unable to do anything about it. They learn they cannot escape the pole, so even when they are a fully grown 6 tonne elephant, they believe they can't pull away from the pole to freedom.
When you have negative self talk about something, when you feel you do not have direct authority or power, if you feel constrained by outside forces it could be an assumed constraint. This is not an easy topic and we're only just beginners but we get into some general conversation and our own assumed constraints and those we see in others.
Overcoming assumed constraints takes really deep work, deep thought about what could you do differently, how are your assumed constraints keeping you right there, what would you do differently if you changed your assumptions. Think about how to frame your thoughts differently and MAKE DIFFERENT decisions.
We'd love to know what you think about this one! What's holding you back?
