Lindsey Helman:

Hello and welcome to Financial Perspectives, where we interview and discuss trends with leaders from across the investment and finance industry. On today's special episode, I'm here to speak with Tanya.

Tanya Suba-Tang:

Hold on, Lindsey. Aren't I usually hosting and did you say Financial Perspectives? Let's back up here for a second, for our listeners.

Lindsey Helman:

You are so right, Tanya. Let me introduce myself here for a minute. I'm Lindsey Helman, the show's producer and Managing Director of Marketing and Brand Strategy with CFA Society San Francisco. We have some exciting new developments coming up in season five to share with our listeners today, so I figured I would come out from behind the screen to join the conversation. We've been working on this podcast together for the past four seasons and I don't think we've ever truly introduced ourselves to our listeners.

Tanya Suba-Tang:

You're right, we haven't. As for me, you might have already heard from me as the podcast host and interviewer, but allow me to formally introduce myself. Hi everyone. I'm Tanya Suba-Tang, Director of Membership and Programming for CFA Society San Francisco, and your podcast host. I get the pleasure of announcing our new name: Financial Perspectives. So, after four successful seasons, our listeners are probably wondering why are we changing our name? Lindsey, do you want to put on your marketing and producer hat and discuss why we're rebranding?

Lindsey Helman:

Oh, thank you, Tanya, I'd love to. It's probably easier if I start at the beginning. In 2021, Tanya and I had this tiny sliver of an idea to start a podcast. In the first two weeks of having this idea, we booked our first guest and launched the show - had a full site up and running for it. Initially, our idea was to keep it more human interest focused and, as we found our footing in general flow of the show, we decided to leverage the guest's knowledge base and overall experience. We could be more impactful and have deeper episodes if we focused more on industry sectors and trends. We'd kept the original title and description pretty broad when we created it, while we determined exactly what we'd be talking about in the podcast, which direction it was taking and where we were going with it. CFA Society San Francisco has so much great programming and content streams. A growing YouTube channel, industry content libraries, a strong LinkedIn presence, and numerous events, both in-person and virtual that we really wanted to give this show its own identity and highlight exactly what it's all about.

Tanya Suba-Tang:

But don't worry, this doesn't mean we're changing. We're only getting better from here. So, while the podcast always continues to evolve based on our listener interest, we're not currently changing the episode format or the quality of speakers.

Lindsey Helman:

Since we never really discussed on the show exactly the things we talked about. What will our listeners expect? What is your elevator pitch, Tanya, for the Financial Perspectives podcast?

Tanya Suba-Tang:

Sure! Absolutely. So, I think the new title helps highlight exactly what you'll hear from us. It's insights from finance and investment professionals on current trends, career advancements and their outlook going forward. Each episode highlights the guest area of expertise and features their unique perspectives through a finance lens. Now some episodes are directed towards a specific industry area, like fintech or treasury, while others are advice-oriented, discussing career tips and business best practices. Overall, you'll come away having learned new insights into the investment and finance industry.

Lindsey Helman:

Basically, you sit down and have a brief conversation with investment professionals who are experts in a specified topic, area and field.

Tanya Suba-Tang:

Exactly.

Lindsey Helman:

So who's the show for? Can you identify a little bit like? Who are our listeners??

Tanya Suba-Tang:

Great question. I love it. With a global listener base, we really try to keep this as open and accessible as possible. We never get too deep or too technical, but there are always good takeaways, regardless of your knowledge level.

Lindsey Helman:

Essentially, anyone who has an interest in finance, whether you are a student, a C-suite executive at an investment firm, or just love learning new things. While our focus is from a financial point of view or perspective, as the show's title would imply, we've discussed topics ranging from traditional finance to technology, volunteer work and everything in between. Now that we've identified what the Financial Perspectives podcast is and what we focus on, tanya, do you want to share with us what's in store for season five?

Tanya Suba-Tang:

I would love to so. We've been working on this for months now and we're beyond thrilled to announce a few improvements to the show. Starting today, you can now text the show and send us fan mail. There's a link at the top of each episode to send us fan mail via text. But don't worry, your phone number and information will not be saved or shared with us. It's simply a no reply inbox.

Lindsey Helman:

Send us your thoughts on the episode that you've just heard or topics you'd like featured, suggest a guest, or even just say hi. Reach out, and if you're lucky, you might hear your message featured on the next episode. Just make sure to send your name or where you're listening from for us to be able to give you a proper shout out.

Tanya Suba-Tang:

We're also discussing bringing back some of our earlier speakers this season. We'll be introducing a new segment too. It's called: Chats. In September, starting the second Tuesday of the month, we will be publishing popular fireside chats to the Financial Perspectives podcast. You'll see these episodes listed as "chats in the title. They will have longer runtimes and feature a moderated discussion between industry professionals.

Lindsey Helman:

You can still expect a Financial Perspectives episode on the last Tuesday of the month in the same format as our typical episodes. These aren't going away, so they're just featured chats in a bonus episode format. All of these chats will be pulled from past webinars that we've hosted, so the audio may sound a little different than you're used to and the format's a little different. They are a little longer, but in the same high quality that you'd come to expect from CFA Society San Francisco content.

Tanya Suba-Tang:

So keep an eye out for the first episode of the Chats segment. We'd love to hear what you think.

Lindsey Helman:

All right, Tanya. So I know we'd said that we'd keep this short, since this is a bonus episode, but we do have one last thing to discuss, and I'm sure our listeners would love to know how to connect with us.

Tanya Suba-Tang:

So if you'd like to reach out about the show, request to be a speaker guest or have any questions, you can always reach out to us via email, at podcast@ cfa-sf. org, or connect with us on LinkedIn or send in your fan mail. We're always open to new ideas and new sources for guests.

Lindsey Helman:

Well, Tanya, I think that just about wraps up what our listeners can expect from the Financial Perspectives podcast. We are thrilled for the upcoming season.

Tanya Suba-Tang:

Thank you everyone for listening to this special episode. Be sure to catch the Financial Perspectives Season 5 premiere dropping on August 27th.
