Tonight, we will explore finding the right balance in life. Life is a big balancing act. From the moment we wake up, our mind races to list down all the things we need to do for the day, all the while thinking that you want to rest more, take your time in the morning, exercise, meditate.

 

During the day, we are pulled into all different directions, and you try so hard to find a moment to ourself, to breathe, relax. As night falls, we try to settle into the motions of the night, squeezing every last bit of freedom that we can - hanging out with family, loved ones, and some me-time if possible. As we crawl into bed thinking of our to-dos while trying to relax yourself for a good night's sleep. Then we wake up to do all of this again the next day.  We know for a fact that this cycle never ends. All for good reason. God is trying to make us to constantly assess our priorities and see if our plans are still in alignment with His.

**Guided Visualization:**

 

Let's take a moment to pause and center ourselves. Close your eyes and take a deep breath in, filling your lungs with fresh, calming air. As you exhale, release any tension or stress you might be holding onto.

 

Now, imagine yourself gently lifting off the ground, rising higher and higher into the sky. The earth below starts to shrink as you float effortlessly into the clouds. The clouds are soft and inviting, and you find a comfortable spot to rest.

 

As you sit on these fluffy clouds, take a moment to appreciate the view from above. The world below is peaceful and serene. You see the vastness of the landscape, the mountains, the rivers, and the forests, all stretching out as far as the eye can see. The beauty and tranquility of this perspective bring a sense of calm and relaxation to your mind and body.

 

Feel the gentle breeze as it whispers around you, carrying away any worries or concerns. Up here, in this serene space, everything seems more manageable, more balanced. You are free from the hustle and bustle of daily life, and you can simply be present in this moment.

 

As you look around, you notice beams of moonlight breaking through the clouds, illuminating different parts of the landscape below. Twinkling stars also light up the sky, adding to the serene beauty of the night. These celestial lights represent the love and support you receive from the people in your life. Think about the individuals who care for you, who lift you up during challenging times, and who bring joy to your life. Feel their warmth and support surrounding you, just like the moonlight and stars.

 

Take a moment to express gratitude for these special people. In your mind, thank them for their love, their encouragement, and their presence in your life. Feel the peace that comes from knowing you are supported and cherished.

 

Now, lie down on the cloud and let it cradle you gently. Take a deep breath in, feeling the cool, fresh air fill your lungs. As you exhale, imagine all the stress and tension melting away. Feel the softness of the cloud beneath you, supporting you completely. Allow yourself to relax even deeper, knowing that you are safe and held in this peaceful space.

 

Continue to breathe slowly and deeply, letting each breath bring you closer to a state of complete relaxation and balance. Enjoy this moment of serenity and calm, feeling grateful for the support and love that surrounds you.

**Scripture Reflection:**

 

Let's reflect on some scriptures that remind us of balance from God's perspective.

 

Ecclesiastes 3:1 (ESV)

For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.

This verse reminds us that God has different purposes for different seasons of our lives.  Your life might not feel balanced today, but perhaps you are in a season of extreme giving in some area of your life.

2. Matthew 6:33

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

When we pursue God first, he takes care of the details in our lives.  Compared to seeking God, everything else should be out of balance.

3. Romans 12:2

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

God wants to renew our minds with his Word as we discern his will.  God’s will often does not make sense to the world.  We need to discern a sense of balance from God, not from what the world tells us.

4. Philippians 4:8

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

We are called to balance in our thought lives.  In his letter to the Philippian church, the Apostle Paul described how to balance our thoughts and align them with God’s thoughts.

5. Philippians 4:11

Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content.

We find balance when we learn to be content in all situations.  Paul wrote these words from prison.  He had given up everything for the cause of Christ.

Following Christ often includes a cost.  Our lives will not always be free from trouble.  Nevertheless, the cost will be worth the reward.  Furthermore, when we learn to be content in all situations, we take a giant step toward peace.

6. Mark 6:31

And he said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while.” For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat.

Jesus will show us how to follow him into balance, just as he showed his disciples when he walked on earth.  He cares about our physical needs.  We can trust him to provide for us as we pursue him.

7. Luke 10:27

And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.”

Loving God should tip the balance scales in our lives.  Our love for God should be stronger than any other force.  When we are driven by God’s love, we can rest assured that we are walking in obedience, even when our lives feel out of balance.

8. Luke 6:12

In these days he went out to the mountain to pray, and all night he continued in prayer to God.

Jesus modeled a lifestyle of extreme commitment to God.  He often prayed all night, seeking his face first.  He did not model a lifestyle of balance; he modeled a lifestyle of extreme devotion to God.

9. Matthew 26:39

And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.”

 

10. Colossians 3:17

And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

 

1. **Ecclesiastes 3:1 (NIV)** - "There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens."

2. **Matthew 6:33 (NIV)** - "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."

3. **Proverbs 16:9 (NIV)** - "In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps."

4. **Psalm 90:12 (NIV)** - "Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom."

5. **Ephesians 5:15-16 (NIV)** - "Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil."

6. **Colossians 3:17 (NIV)** - "And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him."

7. **1 Corinthians 10:31 (NIV)** - "So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God."

8. **Matthew 11:28-30 (NIV)** - "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."

9. **Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV)** - "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

10. **Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)** - "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."

11. **Psalm 37:4 (NIV)** - "Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart."

12. **1 Timothy 4:8 (NIV)** - "For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come."

13. **James 1:5 (NIV)** - "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you."

14. **2 Timothy 2:15 (NIV)** - "Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth."

15. **Luke 10:41-42 (NIV)** - "'Martha, Martha,' the Lord answered, 'you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.'"

17. **Psalm 127:2 (NIV)** - "In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat—for he grants sleep to those he loves."

19. **Colossians 3:23 (NIV)** - "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters."

20. **Ecclesiastes 4:6 (NIV)** - "Better one handful with tranquillity than two handfuls with toil and chasing after the wind."

21. **1 Peter 5:7 (NIV)** - "Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you."

22. **Isaiah 26:3 (NIV)** - "You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast because they trust in you."

23. **Matthew 6:34 (NIV)** - "Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."

24. **Psalm 23:2-3 (NIV)** - "He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake."

25. **Philippians 4:11-13 (NIV)** - "I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength."

49. **Proverbs 3:24 (NIV)** - "When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet."

50. **Psalm 62:5 (NIV)** - "Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him."

As we navigate the balancing act of life, let's remember that Balance isn’t a life of equally filled cup for our different priorities; it’s a life committed to seeking first God’s kingdom and his righteousness. Let him speak into your life and fill you with the peace that comes from knowing you are honoring him with your time and energy.
