 The Wagner Group (WG), a Russian 'private army' close to the Kremlin, has had a checkered past in Africa over the past few years. Nevertheless, several regimes run by military juntas have decided to align with WG to combat a number of anti-regime forces, including jihadi groups tied to Al Qaeda (AQ) and Islamic State (ISIS). A recent 'slaughter' of WG soldiers in Mali has brought the organisation to the fore. What is happening? Borealis talks with Caleb Weiss on this issue.
