 When most people think of terrorism it is probable that the Middle East comes to mind. After all, groups like Al Qaeda and Islamic State have distinct Middle East origins and they have been active in that part of the world for decades. And yet, Africa has risen in recent years as a hub of jihadi organisations: Burkina Faso was the hardest hit country on Earth last year according to the Global Terrorism Index. What is happening on the ground and what does that mean for international security? Borealis talks with a sub-Saharan specialist on these matters.
