E 10: How to you use YouTube for organic growth
[00:00:00] Welcome back to the G S D Podcast everybody. I'm your host, the wizard of Is. And again, welcome back to the show. We were off for a little bit and we came back with last episode on how to repurpose your content for social media. That was a three part series, and today for episode 10, I'm throwing in a little bonus episode.
[00:00:19] I had to take a personal break for a while and now I'm kind of getting back into things. So this episode though, I wanted to toss you away 'cause it kind of fits the mold of what we were talking about, which has been social media. And this is a bonus episode and it's how to use YouTube for organic growth.
[00:00:37] So following up this three part social media series, this is the perfect episode. To expand on that just a little, and this is where you can get just a little bonus info for me later on when we launch this community back up. I wanted to start off in letting you guys know that if you didn't, YouTube averages over.
[00:00:54] You ready for this 122 million users [00:01:00] per day according to recent stats from 2023 a hundred. And 22 million users. That's crazy. That's crazy that it's the number two search engine in the world behind what it's parent company, Google. Google's number one. YouTube's number two. So if you are trying to grow organically, it takes a while to get organic growth in anything you do.
[00:01:33] And yeah, you're gonna hear experts out there. They're like, oh, well you gotta . Maximize your Ss e o and your keywords. Well, keywords and keyword stuff thing is not there. Well, you gotta get back links. Oh, back links, yes. But then are they quality back links? Oh, you gotta have quality info and info. That sounds like you're really helping someone and not regurgitate the same thing.
[00:01:51] Yeah, that's true. You can't follow a blog that says the top five ways to lose weight and be like, I'm gonna write the top six ways to lose weight. And then you regurgitate [00:02:00] the same top five from somewhere else and you added one. That doesn't work. So organic growth is tough. It's time consuming and it happens over time.
[00:02:09] But how can you use YouTube now to grow organically? And you can, because it's the number two search engine. So while Google is number one, and of course it index your site, it looks at blogs you put up, and if you run Google ads, a lot of your traffic for Google Ads will eventually change to organic traffic over time.
[00:02:32] We don't wanna wait for that, and we don't wanna spend money on the ads. So how can we grow it organically? Okay. before we can use YouTube for organic growth, we need to understand how YouTube uses the videos that we upload to it.
[00:02:43] That will create our organic growth. So let's dive in. You can use YouTube to help your organic growth. We just talked about that number two search engine.
[00:02:52] Depending on your channel's niche and your research keywords. You wanna think of what people might search Google for?
[00:02:58] Some of the best keywords are there are [00:03:00] how to, like, how to hip hop dance, how to paint a masterpiece, painting, how to you know, weatherproof your windows. All of these how-tos are big searches, which when you put that into Google, if there's videos for it, that comes up first before regular search traffic does.
[00:03:20] When you're creating videos for maybe your business or maybe your personal brand on YouTube, think of what you offer. Think of what you sell. Think of your products. Think of how it can be used in a how to search. That's one way to already get your name up there in search results. Now, I'm not gonna lie, it doesn't mean hundreds of people haven't created something similar.
[00:03:42] I'm sure if you look up how to change a car tire or how to jumpstart a car, there's a ton of videos. Some get more than others, but it doesn't mean yours won't show up. But you know, if you're more niche. That's why I said, depending on your channel niche, if you're more niche, It might work like maybe you're like, how [00:04:00] to jump a car battery for 2008.
[00:04:03] You know, Mercedes-Benz, your video, if that's what it's called, that'll probably show up before anyone else does. So, understand your niche, what your market is. Try to use YouTube. The other thing is when you create videos, you wanna focus on the watch time. You want viewers, but you want to make sure they're watching the video in its entirety.
[00:04:26] There's a benefit to short and long videos, but when you put a video up, the longer they watch YouTube thinks it's better quality content. So don't start making videos and say, oh, I'm gonna make a 10 minute, 20 minute video 'cause that's gonna be, you know, more content and that's gonna help me get up my watch hours so I can get monetized and make money.
[00:04:47] No, if you can't hold somebody that whole amount of time, don't waste your time. So watch time goes by a percentage if only 10% of your video is being watched, whether it's a minute video or a 10 minute video. [00:05:00] YouTube sees that and it thinks that it's probably not relative content. So as you make videos, look at how much of it's actually being watched, do you get to the answer early on, and then there's fluff?
[00:05:11] Is there too much fluff in the beginning and you're losing people? You have to engage people with your video content to watch it, and short videos and long videos are both great. You can use YouTube shorts or you can do a regular long form on YouTube. YouTube shorts is becoming very popular and growing.
[00:05:26] Pretty soon they're gonna monetize YouTube shorts. I believe it's this year, 2023. So maybe you can have something like how to Change a Car Tire, and you do it in less than a minute on a YouTube short. But then you can give a more detailed description as a long form video just saying. Now, if you're CarPlay repair place and you're not putting this type of info out, or don't know somebody who can find somebody, but you should be putting this out on blogs on your website as YouTube videos.
[00:05:53] Because you're building trust. There are so many companies out there that are producing and running services [00:06:00] that people want help with all the time. That don't produce blogs or videos on how to do that. Look, you're not gonna put yourself out of a job.
[00:06:08] If you create a video that says how to maintain your home AC unit, you're not gonna get, you're not gonna put yourself outta work. You're actually gonna get more work. 'cause if I trust what you say and I'm maintaining my unit, when I do have an issue, I'm coming to you. And that's the thing. How much does it cost you to do a simple job?
[00:06:26] that's why there's so many of these oil change places up for cars. They just do oil changes because they just churn and burn 'em quick, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom. But a regular auto mechanic, they don't wanna waste their bay. Doing an oil change. Doesn't make them money, but. Maybe you can teach someone how to do an oil change for themselves at home, and they'll come to you for the more serious repairs.
[00:06:48] But anyways, that's a whole other marketing topic for another time. But think about that next. Make sure your title captures the intent of the video. Don't trick people. [00:07:00] It'll backfire on you. So if your video is about how to change a car tire, Make sure that's the title . And make sure you're not showing them how to change a bike tire.
[00:07:11] You show them how to change a car tire, there's no hidden agenda. Very simple, straightforward, whatever the intent of the video is, that title needs to be it. And don't put something in it that's not the title. This isn't clickbait. That's not gonna make you money. That's actually gonna hurt you in this idea of YouTube for organic growth.
[00:07:29] Next. Make sure your description also fits the topic of the video and matches your title. So you know, the whole days of keyword stuffing, anything, descriptions, titles, websites, web pages, emails, it doesn't really work anymore, but you do wanna make it relevant. So if you're talking about how to change a car tire, Talk about that in your description.
[00:07:51] Use tags about that in the description and maybe link back someplace like to your business. Or maybe there's another video that coincides with it. [00:08:00] Just make your description, kind of follow along and match as well.
[00:08:03] And the next thing you wanna do is keywords. Use them. And when I mean keywords, I mean tags use tags as keywords. Now from what I've heard, YouTube doesn't focus that heavily on them anymore, but it's still important to put them in 'cause it's still relevant for searches and related searches. So I would still use them.
[00:08:21] other thing is create a bright custom thumbnail to stand out. You know, don't just . , if you're doing, let's say like we're talking about a tire change, don't just have like a, a flat tire or something. Put like a picture of a flat tire and in bright letters and, and in bright, vibrant colors. Maybe someone's like freaking out that they gotta change their tire, but like, how to change a tire, make it engage and make people wanna click on that thing.
[00:08:44] Because If you're competing, it doesn't really go with what I said earlier, which said, know your niche. You wanna be niche, but if you're competing with people in a space that there's a lot, make that thumbnail bright and stand out.
[00:08:55] Another trick some people don't think about. Title your thumbnail, the [00:09:00] file of your thumbnail before you upload it. Title it, what the video is. That's another thing to help you out. A lot of people don't realize that. the other thing is follow a constant upload schedule. Like if you promise people weekly videos, post weekly videos.
[00:09:13] If you say like every two weeks post, every two weeks, if you're like videos on Thursdays and Saturdays or something crazy like that, post videos on Thursdays and Saturday. Follow a constant upload schedule. It'll help YouTube understand when you're uploading and when people are gonna be looking for it.
[00:09:28] Help promoting it. I've learned this myself. Follow constant schedule. End your videos with something controversial that will get people talking in the comments. you know, take this for a grain of salt. But if you're talking about changing tires, maybe there's something out there where people, maybe it's the way you change a tire.
[00:09:49] Maybe it's the way you put it on. Maybe it has to do with the, the spare or the donut they call it. A lot of people I hear, they say, don't, don't drive over a certain speed limit when you're riding the donut, or only go so many miles. [00:10:00] Something controversial will be like, how long have you actually driven on the donut before?
[00:10:04] Because I myself have done 200 miles, 'cause I couldn't get someplace before, but they said 55, what have you done and do you think 55 is correct? Something like that. Then it gets people talking. Why? Because engagement. Also get your video shown more. So following these steps will put you toward the right path to ranking your videos quickly.
[00:10:24] You wanna think about it like you're running Google Ads without paying Google Ads? No. Yes, you can run YouTube videos through Google Ads . You can do that too, but we're not doing that. We're trying to use YouTube for free to grow organically. So again, think of it like running Google Ads without paying for Google ads.
[00:10:44] That is a way to get . You ranking your info out there and to help your business grow organically while you build everything else in the background with your marketing and your website and everything else. So I hope you guys appreciate that little tip. It does [00:11:00] work. Trust me. I've had many clients try it and they've seen the growth.
[00:11:03] And they've seen the traffic go back to their website or to other landing pages. So check it out, give it a shot, go for it. Again, thank you for tuning in.
