do we open our can in the in the mic for
 the
ASMR do you know what ASMR is
Yes W I think that was a very satisfying
one do I put it right up here I can't
 spill
it yeah did you know that some people
design their cans to have extra extra
ASMR properties to make it more
satisfying what is up everybody welcome
back to another wrapup where we wrap up
the last month or so with interesting
facts teachable moments and fun things
that will help you live a long healthy
 and happy
 [Music]
life wrapping out a last episodes we had
a amazing guest on Mariana big thanks to
her for coming on the show if you
haven't listened to that episode yet
definitely go back and have a listen uh
we had a lot of people reach out and
there's some good takeaways from that
episode no yeah yes I feel like it's so
nice to have someone that's out of our
bubble like I like talking to you sure
but we get we obviously find a lot of
the same things and share the same
things with one one another so it is
really nice to get another perspective
 refreshing um she's really interesting
 to talk to
just yeah she has a lot to teach I feel
like every human has a lot to teach
 regardless of what their qualification
is right uh I think probably I had three
or four people reach out and say the one
big takeaway they all had the same one
was how you turn up to the mat is how is
what you get from the session oh really
yeah so that was a good conversation so
if you're on YouTube or on a podcast
platform where you can skip forwards
I've been timestamping a lot of the
episodes so that's time stamp so you can
just skip forwards and hav't listen to
that that was a really good spot to join
the conversation uh and we also did a
little yoga session before the episode
so if you want to see me be real flexy
you can jump on YouTube and watch that
as well and the week before that we did
the self comparison trap which was also
 a really popular
episode in it just started a lot of
 really good conversations with people
that I know in person I found from that
episode I discovered that a lot of
people that I know listen to the podcast
because that's the first episode they've
sort of bought up to me because I don't
think it's spoken about enough like how
ingrained it is in our lives to compare
ourselves to each other um so that was
 also a really good
episode yeah definitely I I forgot all
about that one but a lot of people are
 still talking about that episode
 everyone's like do more psychology
Things We Will We Will and then as
always a massive Q&A last week I have
got a f follow overflow of questions in
today's one so um obviously not as
formal as the q&as but a lot of good
questions and a big thank you to
everybody that asks a question if you we
still get people like where can we ask
questions anywhere you want you can in
person obviously if you know us you can
ask your question you can message us on
Instagram uh or there's a link in the
show notes where you can submit a
question without even giving us your
your name email anything you just sub me
your question comes through uh or you
can comment even better we'd appreciate
it if you comment on the YouTube channel
 or social media with your
question so pretty much everywhere isn't
it yeah I even think there's a little
comment thing on uh Spotify now where
you can leave a question leave it there
 I think we'll get
it just maybe reach out and make sure
you let us know that you put a question
there if you do that may we should try
it first maybe I'll ask ask a question
and see where it goes I don't know where
it goes neither me neither but it's
there we're so good at this um and if
you do want to become a supporter of
this show if you've been listening for a
while now and you're like you know what
you guys are awesome we want to give you
a little bit of sweet Muller on the
side uh you can hit the support link and
it's just a little donation you can
choose how much you want to give us each
month uh or it might even just be one
off so whatever you choose and those
that have been doing that have been
getting some sweet as merch so if you
see somebody walking around the streets
and they got a sweet F Moore shirt on
you know that they're a supporter of the
show right that's us wrapped up let's
get into it then I feel like you should
 start
because sound you make it sound like
you've got a lot of questions or do you
want me to go I've just got sort of more
like one one or two questions one was a
question one sort of a thoughts question
uh first one was uh nasal magnetic nasal
strip yeah they're in my my social media
feed everywhere right so we spoke about
this a few weeks ago now about nasal
breathing and how you should breathe
through your nose and not through your
mouth and everybody's just like wait
what yeah I had so many people like I
breathe through my nose I'm like wow
like I just thought again like you just
said we get caught up in our own little
world I just thought everybody breathe
through their nose cuz that's how you
 meant to breathe
and um it's obviously not you should
know from experience with me that not
everybody breaks through their no even
since that episode I've just like I'm
probably the weirdo in the gym now
because I watch people what do you mean
now always and I'm watching their mouth
and seeing if they're mouth breathers or
not and and and it's just you can it's
anyway I won't go but the gym is
different like I probably mouth breathe
a little more in the gym true but like
just walking around doing stuff like not
people actually working out I probably
do it in public now as well watching
people see if they M probably think
you're just like looking at their lips
like you want to make out reading lips
lip reading um so yeah it's and it's
surprising how many people do breathe
through their mouth yeah again I just
got caught up in my own little world now
I'm noticing it a lot more and obviously
social media knows that I'm noticing cuz
nasal those magnetic nasal strips are
popping up and they've being popped up
in everybody else's feed would you wear
them would you do you want to swap
should we try them are they expensive I
don't know and I don't think so like
so the thing is you got muscles around
your nasal passage and you want those
muscles to be working because that opens
up your nail passage and you know helps
you breathe properly and breathe through
your nose rather than your mouth so
 obviously when those muscles stop
working you don't use them they um Dev
septum I think is that what oh yeah
they collap that's very general speaking
but they basically collapse and those
muscles aren't working anymore so they
close up and you can't breathe through
 your nose
so this is sort of just
like allowing the muscles to not work
still and relying on something else the
the magnetic NASA strips oh so you think
that it maybe isn't like the best idea
for long-term nasal breathing yeah it's
more of a very but what about the sticky
ones in comparison to the ones that just
we use sticky ones I use them every now
and then when my nose gets a little
clogged up or something like that and I
think they're handy just for those times
but I don't think you should rely on
them either I think they're a good tool
to use to learn to start na nasal
breathing but yeah I think the magnetic
ones just take it to that next level cuz
they open up you like if you if you see
the clip on social media they open up
your nostrils cuz you like put a magnet
you stick a magnet inside your nose
right is that right mhm and then how
long do you leave that there for like
and then you have to pick your nose to
get the little magnets out every day
like if you're just wearing it at night
yeah I haven't dived much harder to me
than just the sticky ones but I've
 obviously they're pump and advertising
because I've had a few people say hey
good yeah I should have looked at it
before this episode but I just I don't
think they're that good of an idea I'd
rather see people using the sticky ones
the plastic ones and weaning off those
to learn how to breathe through your
nose a little bit more so I think we
when we were speaking to Nathan on the
weekend or whenever it was he he sort of
said how do I even start because we were
talking about mouth breathing and nasal
breathing and he's like yeah like that
makes a lot of sense and I've noticed
that I do it but what do I do
now do what I don't know what would be
the first thing so we we talk about
taping our mouths and he's like oh do I
 just get duct tape
and look again that that's my bad so I
use Sports tape so just General if
you're going to strap your knee or
something that same strapping uh what's
Rock tape is the but like also you can
buy like there's so many brand cheap
brand like obviously with a beard it's a
little bit more trickier and I've found
if you if you're looking for a brand
that works with beards I've found a
brand I just cut a little bit longer so
it goes over my mouth a little bit and
pass my beard and sticks it seems to
work um I've tried a few different
brands so if you're looking for that
brand let me you know and I'll just take
a photo and send it to you um but yeah I
 just recommend starting with
 that
obviously night time's the best time to
do it again Nathan brought this up oh
I'll just sit there and watch a movie or
something in the afternoon and take my
mouth I'm like that's good but like if
his partner wants to have a chat or asks
him a question he needs to then he's
like I'll just text her I'm like that's
 probably it's probably not the
best uh but it is I get that because
it's kind of scary tape in your mouth
night time yeah yeah and look you're
just going to end up ripping it off yeah
like you won't yeah you'll just rip it
off in your sleep most likely um and
it's going to be hard to get used to the
first couple nights you do it it's going
to be weird it's not really going to it
probably hinders your sleep a little bit
I'd say but if you stick with it you get
used to it and it will help um at the
moment I've been feeling a bit congested
so I've been taping my mouth at night
time and sometimes during the night I
don't even realize it and I just rip it
off yeah it and you'll do the same like
if you can't breathe you you will
naturally pull the thing off your mouth
and be able to breathe again so and look
or you know if you have got time to
yourself and you're alone yeah tape your
mouth watch a movie just start with it
just in normal day-to-day life if you're
too scared of doing it at nighttime but
it would just be a matter of just slowly
increasing that time as well yeah and I
think and potentially when you first
start do both do the nasal strip and
tape your mouth because having the nasal
strip will make it feel a little easier
to breathe in the beginning um yeah it's
those nasal strips everybody's like oh
they're just a little bit of plastic but
they they make a huge difference huge
difference and yeah when you are
starting to tape your mouth that yeah
that's a good point you should do both
it will make a big difference and then
obviously I'd say wean off the nasal
strips and keep your mouth taped and
then eventually lose the mouth tape but
again like like I said I've been doing
this for on and off for like five years
if not longer and I still yeah go on and
off it when I feel like I need to and
I'm breathing through my mouth a bit too
 much I'll tape it
mhm um so yeah na strips magnetic na
strips good or bad I'd say good tool but
yeah don't try don't rely on them yeah
all right you go what you go okay I the
the things that I've brought to the
table today are a little more
philosophical because I don't know why
not I feel why not so the first one is
funeral stories are not ever a about
normal behavior all your normal behavior
 is
forgotten funeral St funeral stories so
 think about I mean I haven't been to a
funeral for a really long time I see but
think about going to a funeral and the
stories that they tell at the funeral
about the person that has passed away
they are never just normal things
they're always about like your quirks
and the things that make you who you are
the weird things that you do the weird
behaviors and tendencies the crazy ideas
you had the stupid things that you tried
they are the things that people remember
about you when you pass away and I heard
this on a podcast the other day and I
was just like wow because I think this
 relates to our self-comparison episode
quite well um because we're so scared of
doing things that are different and
weird and quirky and actually showing
our real personality that's that's kind
of scary right because it's likely what
people will remember the most about you
because it's different to everybody else
like no one is going to get up at your f
fer and say mac was nice and polite and
worked to 9 to5 and dressed in beige and
I don't know you know what I mean like
no one's going to get up and and share
all of the things that make you the same
as everyone else next to you they're
going to get up and share the funny
quirky different things about you things
that you did with people exactly that
made you who you are because that's why
people liked you because of the weird
things and I just think that that's
really cool and that's a really cool way
 to think about presenting your
personality I guess like why do you want
to present yourself as the same as every
other person because what is going to
make you stand out from the crowd and
what's going to make anyone want to be
around you and in your company if
there's 46 other people just like you on
this street you know what I
mean yeah it's I guess like as soon as
you sort of started talking about
obviously being older now I've had a few
different friendships and that sort of
thing I can think about you know friends
I've had and then you think about those
friends and then like the things that
you think about are moments what they do
you know the way they talk about things
like their little quirks so yeah it's
well how do I use that to I don't know
stop self-comparison and live my life
how how do you you if if I find out how
to stop it then I will tell you but I've
been trying to like since that episode
and like a bunch of stuff that I've been
learning in uni and then like listening
to more philosophical podcasts the past
couple of weeks I have been trying to be
 more
myself um because I don't know the last
month maybe we've been meeting a lot
more people I don't know I feel like
I've been a lot more social maybe
because I'm on uni break and I've just
been socializing more and I do find that
I have a lot more fun around people when
I am just weird like when I'm just my
normal weird self m you know what I mean
but it's so easy and then I'll get on
social media and I'll be like oh I'm so
different but that's a good thing right
um are you allowed to be your weird self
 at
Uni I feel like I'm a robot at Uni maybe
NE maybe this semester coming because
I'll be in the third year and there'll
be less students but it's just very easy
to just um just be a student you know
what I mean not really it's also very
hard that you need to share your
personality cuz a lot of the time you're
in massive groups and you sit down
listen sit down listen and then if if
you do participate in the big groups
 that's very intimidating because there's
 like I don't know 200 kids in a lecture
 theater and it's hard
to it's hard to want to be different
apologies if you can hear that in the
 background somebody's going crazy with
 the
vacuum um but yeah I don't know I just
thought that was a good thing to carry
with you to think about when you're in
 social situations and like meeting
people and when you question yourself I
suppose like why why do I have to be the
same as everybody else and how do I want
people to remember me like do I want
them to remember me as an individual or
me as just like one of the crowd well
they probably won't remember you if
you're one of the crowd but yeah
 interesting
yeah you want me to you want me to keep
going y okay the next one I've got is
about success and I feel like this
relates to health and fitness more
directly in the sense that not one thing
not one fitness plan not one diet not
one way of living eating sleeping
whatever is going to lead everyone to
succeed I think a couple of weeks ago
maybe we spoke about how the diets and
stuff that stick and that are popular
are ones that you can market and sell
really well like keto vegan Etc because
it's like here's this thing and it
worked for me and it's easy to package
and it's easy to pass on but that
doesn't necessarily mean it's going to
work for everyone and I found a really
really good example of that in a
sporting situation so it's not often
that there are three pros like big Pros
in any sporting situation at one point
in time in history right there's usually
one or two and they're competing against
each other most likely just one pro that
is like that dominates the time period
for however many years they can the top
position but just FYI I'm not into
tennis either but I know these people
because they're all such big players and
that is federa Nadal and jovic and they
were all like top of their field but all
at the same time which is very abnormal
right and then I heard a comparison
about how they all approach the game and
 their warmup completely differently and
I was like wow this is perfect a perfect
example of like a real world high level
high achieve a situation where everyone
has their own way to succeed because
they all succeed right so for example
federa enters the court like so there's
like warm-up courts before they go to
take the actual game feder's way of
entering the court is like he's doing
trick shots he's messing around with his
friends he's visibly having fun he's
laughing he's relaxed right and then
there's Nadal who comes on and is like
 full on competitor mode screaming
 yelling doing sprints being really
aggressive about his warm-up and then
there's jovic who is like an emotionless
robot and comes on completely focused
completely calm keeps to himself doesn't
say anything doesn't do anything like
extravagant like Nadal does but all of
them are world champions and they all
have vastly different ways of warming up
to play the same game and try and win
the same goal right isn't that so cool
 yeah yeah
 um
it's that's surpris like no one really
thinks about that any as well they just
sort of look at the goal yeah everyone
wants to win they all want to
win I don't know the cup yeah yeah but
it's but like yeah you can take that to
health and fitness like you know if
somebody's lost a lot of weight and
looks good now no one cares how they got
there they're just like it's just the
success yeah no one takes the time to go
oh hey what have you been doing for the
last two years um it's always about that
and this is a good example of just you
know they're all Champions they've all
won big titles been winning for many
years it's like well how do they
actually get there and how do they warm
up no one asked that question yeah yeah
I think asking those other questions
will help you succeed we we had a
business meeting yesterday about how we
can be better I guess and I think we
 were talking about also something
similar to this about that's exactly can
scale yeah and um the man that we were
talking to very successful in business
 but he was sort of
like suggesting we do group oriented
things and we both know from experience
that you can't just give a bunch of
people one program or one course to
follow to all get their goal and their
goal is different but the same and
 they're all different individuals and
they all have different lives and
different factors that affect it and
they respond to exercise and food and
sleep differently it's really hard to
just be like here we've got this program
and it's going to help you lose 10 kilos
in 12 weeks because everyone it's not
going to work for everyone it might work
for two out of 20 you know what I mean
and we could use those two to advertise
to another 20 and then we have four
success and then we keep doing that but
then those 18 people that didn't succeed
are probably going to be disheartened
and think that health and fitness or
dieting or exercise is a waste of time
and that's not the case they just tried
the wrong thing for them yeah and yeah
it comes down like that's exactly you
know we could take those federat Nal
jovic we could replace those names with
three of our clients and those three
clients are going to have completely
different warm-ups to you know the
success of whatever it is yeah and also
I find a lot of the time when we work so
close with clients their version of
success like yes they still want to lose
weight look good and all that sort of
stuff but their version of success
changes as well yeah like winning as
such changes for them as well so I think
 you
know taking your time and working people
 individually and learning what their
warmup is and helping them learn their
warmup to succeed is a much better way
of approaching it but again no one
thinks about that no everybody's like oh
the success stories and yeah when when
you relate relate it back to business I
think in that session yesterday of the
 business
coach can't remember who I looked up but
I was looking up I guess
online fitness coaches as well and their
page is just full of you know before and
after photos and we don't do that we've
talked about why we don't do that and
all that sort of stuff and yes it's very
powerful but at the same time say
there's 10 before and after photos on
their page it looks impressive you're
like wow those 10 people have got great
results what if they've had 10,000
people yeah do their course and only
those 10 have succeeded I'm sure the
success rate is a lot higher for that
person I was looking up but it's just
like you know no one asks the question
of you know what was the warm-up to the
success yeah everybody's just like oh
they succeed okay take my money yeah
it's probably going to work for me too
so yeah again I think that's a great
Point like anybody trying to achieve
anything out there and I guess we could
use this as well like what is the warmup
that everybody's doing to succeed and
then what does our warmup look like
because it's not going to be the same as
everybody else's yeah just oh my God
self-comparison is all around us it's
inescapable now that we've brought it up
 it's everywhere can't stop thinking
 about
it okay what's what's your diet Jack
diet go on well I guess it goes straight
into that like something similar as well
uh this come up again was sort of a
question by Z who asked a good question
 on the last
podcast it's like when you hear the word
diet I hate using that word because it
gives it's just gives me the Shivers and
he's like cuz it he's like it just
automatic I just automatically think of
anend date oh he's like as as a
temporary thing yeah a diet is just a
temporary thing that you do to lose
weight and then I'm like well diet to me
is like a way of eating like keto like
oh no diet to me I think that's from
nutrition learning but diet to me is
just like how you eat period yeah and
that's how it should be seen yeah but
that's that's the issue you say diet to
somebody and everybody just thinks of
something different and usually it's a
 negative like starving yourself or
eating having to eat certain foods for a
certain amount of time and then just
stopping so it's just like well what is
the right word like instead of diet
because we I use it as well I hate using
it but what other word could I use just
to you should just be eating
normally within control to live a
healthy happy life long life I think you
have to explain it to that extent
because there's no single word that is
going to have the same meaning and the
same context to every single person that
you say it to ever because everyone's
got a different experience and a
different learning of the word right so
I feel like every time it's got to have
that amount of context like what is your
way of eating on a daily basis like
that's how you have to say it you know
because especially now with so much
marketing around us and so much social
media everyone's always trying to use
 like click baity
words marketing and then yeah like say
you're on the tram and you see a
sign like perfect example across the
road from us there's an electronic
billboard that changes all the time and
I can't remember which franchise it is
but a franchise has got an ad out at the
minute that's like healthy eating is
clean or clean eating is healthy and I'm
like what the what does that even mean
clean eating is healthy what Buzz words
put together exactly what is clean what
is healthy like and everyone's going to
have a different context behind that
because of how they Define each of the
words I guess that's the point like
everybody can sort of see that sign and
 if it means something different
 everybody they're going to associate
with it and go oh I'll buy that product
or service or whatever it was yeah um
yeah I just thought it was weird and
then I've just been seeing a lot about
tribalism yeah what do you mean by that
well we sort of spoke about in the last
episode I don't know In the self-
comparison episode we talked about oh
how people just you know ketos will jump
on the keto thing and you know keto is
the best and everything else sucks and
that's their tribe to type of thing and
I just um I don't know again if social
media was pumping it but I've been
watching a few things on that through
 history about
tribalism and history and human behavior
which I found quite interesting and I
think it just relates to this it's just
like you know you try something it works
like we're saying in the comp comparison
one that you know you want it to work
and you're afraid of it not working
you're afraid of judging so you can try
and convince everybody that this is the
one thing that's going to work and it
just builds from there and um I also
brought up how two different scientists
one plant-based and one I guess Pro meat
but not just carniv he's definitely not
carnivore he still eats meat and veggies
but he's you know eat meat um Hues
refers to it as omnivore that's that's
the dinosaur that eats everything right
okay so omnivore and diet I feel like
that's what we should use all the time
omnivore diet yeah and plant-based and
they both looked at the same study and
have had the different outcomes from
that study and it sort of comes down to
this as well like the plant-based guy
100% agree with everything he says has
good content but at the same time is he
stuck in this tribalism because you know
when he first started he started he
would have been eating healthy feeling
good all that sort of stuff and then
like hey guys this plant-based thing's
really good and got people in to Vince
him and others it works but then he
 would have start gotten getting
attention from that and then that
attention turns into money and like at
what point does it go from you know it
is good for you to now this is you know
if I stop doing this I'll lose
everything you know what I mean so and
that could be tribalism as well like
same thing when a tribe splits off or
insert whatever that don't know if it's
going to work up in the mountains there
so they convince everybody if it works
 obviously you know their tribe
successful they eat a lot of food make
some money build some stuff so everybody
 joins them
so yeah I just found it very interesting
because again we have all these tribes
 but their tribes are
online you know the plant-based and
 omnivores have these followings that
aren't really real they've never met
them they won't meet them so it's just
why do we have to change from omnivore
anyway I feel like omnivore has been the
way for ever right like but for humans
forever but now everyone's like oh we're
all so obese and did you know that
actually obesity is a bigger problem
than malnutrition now in the world
there's way there's more obese people
than there is malnourished people which
has never been a problem before in
 history ever right and everyone's
panicking and trying to change their
diets and find a diet that has a label
but isn't it obvious isn't it just so
obvious like the processed foods that
are the new thing are what is changing
the dynamic of our health conditions I
don't know I feel yeah like it should be
obvious but it's not because again you
get all these tribes doing all these
different things they make the water all
 murky for everybody
else so yeah just a little bit on diet
mhm cool that's all we got that's all I
 got yeah well everybody listening
