7. Healing from the Bottom Up: Understanding & Navigating Tailbone Pain

We wanted to segue off of what we talked about in our last episode (all about constipation) into another important topic that isn’t talked about enough - tailbone pain. This is something that’s literally a ‘pain in the butt’, and just like constipation..it needs to be addressed!

Since being in the pelvic health field, we’ve learned that tailbone pain (the anatomical term is coccydynia) is something that people don’t know very much about, and it hasn’t been researched super well either. In today’s episode, we’re talking more about important statistics surrounding tailbone pain, common phrases that our patients have heard regarding tailbone pain prior to working with us, other parts of the body that may contribute to tailbone pain, and more.

If you’re struggling with tailbone pain and you’ve been blown off when checking into it, or you just think it’s something you’ll have to deal with forever, don’t give up hope! Choosing pelvic floor therapy as your next, best step (especially if you’ve tried everything else) can really be a great way to dig deeper and find out what the ROOT CAUSE is. We hope this episode encourages you to take action and always advocate for yourself!

In this episode about understanding and navigating tailbone pain, we cover:

  • Statistics surrounding coccydynia (aka tailbone pain)
  • Common phrases that have been said to patients regarding tailbone pain
  • Other ‘players’ in the body that can actually contribute to tailbone pain
  • Symptoms that may occur with and are connected to tailbone pain
