What if a single word could shape your entire year? As we step confidently into 2025, I'm excited to share a cherished tradition that has been pivotal in my personal and professional journey: selecting a guiding word for the year. It's more than just a theme; it's my North Star, steering me towards unwavering dedication in every aspect of life—from nurturing family bonds to maintaining health, and from career ambitions to connecting with the Hike Like a Woman community. This episode is a heartfelt reflection on how past words like "abundant," "authentic," and "momentum" have not only helped me navigate life's challenges, including overcoming breast cancer and career shifts, but also fueled my growth and resilience.

Join the conversation as I invite you to consider your guiding word for 2025 and the transformative impact it could have on your life. Whether you choose to share your word via email or social media, I'm eager to hear what inspires you as we embrace a new year filled with potential and purpose. Hey, happy new year. Welcome back to the pod, rebecca, here. I will make this episode today short and sweet because there's just so much going on and I wanna be consistent and be consistently showing up here every Tuesday morning with a new podcast episode. But sometimes I just wanna record a shorty episode because there's things going on in my life and today's one of those days. So today I just wanna share with you my word for 2025.

For the past few years, during the holidays, I've identified a word to be my North Star, a word to guide me for the upcoming year, and my family actually has a really fun tradition where, on New Year's Eve, we drink root beer out of a bottle, we grill something, we get out the markers and the glue and the scissors and the poster boards and we create a vision board. And on that vision board, we envision what we want the year to provide for us. And I'll tell you what. It sounds a little woo woo, but every year what's on my vision board comes to be. It's amazing. And we look at our vision boards, we put them up in our bedrooms and a part of my vision board is I always write down my word of the year. So, for example, in 2022, my word of the year was abundant and I had just been diagnosed with breast cancer and I wanted everything in my life to be abundant, but it was not abundant. I did not feel abundant at all in anything, but I did feel abundant with my relationships with family and friends in that year, 2022. So 2022, my word was abundant. In 2023, my word of the year was authentic and I had just come out of breast cancer treatment. I was back at work trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my shop and I really wanted to feel like I was my true self again, and that's really hard coming out of cancer treatment. So in 2023, the word that was my North Star was authentic. And in 2024, so this year, my word has been momentum. And momentum because at the beginning of 2024, the end of 2023, I made a huge career shift and I was feeling good and I was feeling really happy about the decision. I'd had a few cool opportunities, and so I wanted to just ride that momentum through the year, and it's been a good ride. 2024 has been the best year that I've had in a long, long time because of momentum. So here we are, just a few days away from ringing in 2025.

And the word that I can't seem to get out of my head is consistency. So consistency, consistent is my word of 2025, because that's where my heart is headed in the new year. I want to be consistent here at work. I want to be consistent with my family, with my friends, with my workouts, with my nutrition, with my health, with my friendships. I just want to show up consistently and that means that I'm going to continue to show up consistently here every single Tuesday morning at 4 am Mountain Time. Even if I don't have much to say, I'm still going to show up, because half of the battle is just being consistent. It means that if you subscribe to our newsletter, you're going to get a newsletter every single Monday at 12 pm, consistently, because I just want to be consistent. I just want to show up for you, because I care about you and I'm so thankful that you're part of the Hike Like a Woman community. I'm going to show up consistently on YouTube every Tuesday and every Friday with new videos. I just want to be consistent for the next year. I just want to show myself that I can do something with consistency, because I tend to like get all these great new ideas and start all these things without thinking them through, rather than just being consistent and doing the things that are already working.

So, as we head into the new year, I'd love to know do you choose a word to be your North Star? And if you do, I'd love to know what it is? So send me over an email, hi at hikelikeawomancom. You can send me a DM on any of the socials. I'm not checking social media right now, but I will be after the new year, or, you know, you can just chat with me. However you can find me, because I'm curious what your word for 2025 is. Hey, thanks so much. Happy New Year and I'll be back next year. Cheers.
