Menopause, Melanin & Aging Like A Queen

Episode 12 - The FEAR of change

Samantha Montpetit-Huynh

If you don’t fear change, you’re an anomaly

I believe that we all fear change – although we KNOW that it’s enivitable, we try SO DAMN HARD to keep things “satus quo” so there are no surprises and we can control things.

I know for me, I always like to know what’s next and makes me think of when I was pregnant with my first 23 years ago. I followed the book (rules) and so did my baby, Rio

The acronym EASY stood for Eat Activity Sleep You. babies like routine and so do adults. Then came baby #2 (Reine) – who said Fuck you. You can take that book and shove it. This was hard for me because I was “following” the rules. What was I doing wrong?

Although I am Type A, I got used to things changing on a whim because now I was a parent.

Then shortly after I had my 2nd (and we had just bought our first home), I quit my job, went back to school full time and decided to become an entrepreneur. Talk about FEAR OF CHANGE. But I loved fitness so I did it.

Then 10 years ago I had a partial hysterectomy. My recovery was hard and I gained a lot of weight because I was barely moving. I then hired my GF to get in the "best shape of my life". Got SUPER lean. Tooo lean. I had a six pack for about 2 seconds lol

My body was changing again.

Then in the last few years, I noticed that my clothes weren’t fitting as well as before and looking back, it was early stages of perimenopause but this time – NO ONE HAS SAID ANYHTHING. Nothing. No preparation. No brochure. Zilnch.

But it also didn’t make sense. I didn’t have typical "symptoms" until I did.

Then I really started to notice the weight gain. It was just a little. It was  LOT and my biggest fear was...what is everyone going to think of me now? I am a “fitness” pro. No one is going to take me seriously anymore, Like...how fucked UP IS THAT.

The thing is...I was (somewhat) prepared for all the changes leading up to this but now? Nothing.

Menopause honestly feels like you have ZERO control. Desperation kicks in and you fear that if you don’t get a handle on things, it will just get worse and worse and you won’t be able to stop it.

Now you are at an increased risk of developing diabetes, HD. Alzheimers and Osteoporosis.

But...here’s the thing. A lot of people fear change.

What if you try and you can't cut it?

But what if you CAN?

One thing I tell my clients is, if it doesn’t scare you, it is not worthy of you. In order to change, you must grow and growth is ALWAYS o
