I'm a physician, ironman, triathlete and have published several hundred scientific studies. I'm honored to be your guide. Well, hello everyone, and today we embark upon our journey to live as long as possible and with as much energy and vigor as you want. We're going to be talking quite a bit about six pillars, or key principles or key approaches that one might do to achieve that outcome of living longer and living better. So let's run through them briefly so you have a sense of the landscape, and then we're going to go through each one of these in turn.

Speaker 1:

So the first is exercise, and it's more involved than just get your two to three hours of exercise a week. There are components of it that we need to talk about. Secondly, sleep. Sleep is an unsung hero and it is so important to living long and well, and we're going to talk through ways to improve your sleep six things to add and six things not to do so that you can have a long sleep and a high quality one. The third is nutrition. There's so much written and talked about, and everybody's got the latest fad or the latest cure, the latest perfect way to lose weight, and I'm going to try to simplify it because I think, as the saying goes, all diets work until they don't, and no single approach is better than another, but there are a few principles that we need to talk through. So that's the third.

Speaker 1:

The fourth relates to mind-body harmony, and this is things like yoga, meditation, breath work. All of these have a real impact on not only how we feel, but how long we may live, so I want to walk you through each of those how long we may live. So I want to walk you through each of those. The fifth is exposure to heat and cold. Now, this is commonly saunas and cold plunges, cold showers, jumping in a cold swimming pool or lake, or any of these.

Speaker 1:

Science has really shown that these make a difference in terms of the risk of dementia, cardiac risk and how long you might live, so we're going to talk about that as well. And then the final, and one that's often not thought about from a health standpoint, are social interactions People in our lives that we can share things with. This has been shown scientifically to help people live longer, and it's one of the most important factors and not as well discussed. So over the next number of weeks we're going to walk through each of these in detail and provide very practical advice for how you can incorporate them into your life so you can live long and well.
